Meegahapokuna Resort

Very welcoming and sweet family who took good care of us with great food and hospitability. The resort is right next to a large pond with tons of wildlife and is located right in the ancient city. Rooms were clean and comfy.

It is set amongst rice fields a 8 mns tuk tuk ride to the holy stupas. Lots of birdlife a gentle breezes to enjoy in the garden setting. The bathrooms & bedding were very clean, simple mattress & furniture; excellent value. The family that hosted us were very hospitable looking after our needs. The food was homemade, herbal fresh and clean. Ordering breakfast in the evening and advising ahead of our meal order gave them ample time so that we could eat promptly without long wait as at home stays the family are managing all the services. It was a a super comfortable, relaxed experience.

The accommodation is very close to the old city, with many temples and sightseeing options. The persons are very kind and offer great food. Their garden and especially the lotus lake on the property are very beautiful!

The very left room of the main accommodation complex was moldy since the rain could come through the roof. All other rooms are very tidy and clean.

We had the best stay at Meegahapokuna. The location is right next to the temple district, which is convenient for sightseeing. The family that runs the place are incredibly kind. They made sure that we were comfortable throughout our stay and helped us to rent bicycles and to find our bus at the station. The husband brought us in their tuktuk to these places. Their cooking is out of this world! We tried many of the dishes on the menu and all contained deep flavours, were freshly made and very filling. Some of the best food we ever had and for a good price. There is a nice 10 minute walk to the lake and the daughters accompanied us, thanks for the lovely chat! Bird-lovers can eat their heart out; while sitting in the relaxing chairs next to the pond at the resort we spotted many waterbirds, kingfishers, pelicans, hornbills, bee-eaters, eagles etc etc They have almost finished building a new, luxurious room at the second floor with great views over the rice fields.

Although their English is relatively basic, we were able to communicate just fine

ThilakaRatne & his wife Kanchana are really hardworking & amazing hosts. The property itself is amidst the Paddy fields on one side & the jungle to the other side, which makes an ideal place to stay if you love nature. Thilakaratne has his own farm & he lays all those fresh produces on your table everyday. The Food they served were all very delocious & they were also very reasonably priced. I also took the tuktuk services, where he himself drove me around the Anuradhapura city ruins,concluding in Mihintale. If you are in Anuradhapura, I definitely recommend this place

Nothing I can point to

The host and family were simply wonderful! We arrived around 830pm after a day long road trip, hungry and tired. Kanchana prepared a satisfying meal for the four of us at such short notice. Her husband also arranged tuk tuks for us to tour Anuradhapura. The location is rustic and quiet. A lovely escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life
