Guesthouse Aozora Blue Sky

We had a reasonable stay at the guesthouse. The place is warm and cosy, the rooms are simple but freshly made up, I would have loved a shelf or cupboard to unpack my clothes and items, spent the week trying to find all our gear! The view out the windows is of lovely snow covered fields and trees. Massa's sushi meal that we ordered one evening was excellent. His wife is lovely, and speaks reasonable English, but is busy working as a teacher.

The location - whilst not too far from the main part of town, it's a decent hike uphill. So in the morning to get to the resort or after a long day on the slopes it's a mission walk in snow and ice, nor easy to get to the local restaurants. A lift is offered, but we were stung at the end of our stay, charging Y400 pp per lift, which we thought was total for the ride, of about 3 minutes! One day we caught a taxi and it cost only Y660, not the Y2000 we were charged. This added up to a considerable amount for our family of 5. Plus we felt that we were asking and it was a real effort for them to give a lift. The ride service should really be included, I know other guesthouses in this part of town include a free ride service. A car would be a great help, and in Myoko region in general to get to the other resorts further afield. The downstairs bathroom sink and toilet was not clean. It was grubby when we arrived and was not cleaned for the entire week. I feel that the older couple need some help in maintaining the accommodation.

Very cozy and reasonably-priced place, run by very nice people.

It’s a short hike down the (steep) hill from town so it’s not so easy to go back-and-forth. But it’s not a problem if you plan accordingly.
