Little Folly

The hotel replied messages promptly. So they were already prepared for our arrival as I messaged them our ETA. Check in was very smooth and fast and we were shown to our room which was very nice and spacious. We had access to a very nice patio with a great view. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was adequate with hot water. Overall, the hotel was well situated- quiet but not far from the main hub (6mins walk). The kettle and coffee/tea in room was great as it was nice to sit in the patio and enjoy a cuppa. Staff was friendly and helpful too. They served a decent breakfast with a big pot of tea. We had both the local and western breakfasts and both were nice. The owner even came to explain how the local breakfast should be taken. Generally a nice place to stay and good value too.

Below are not complains, just my observations and opinion. The beds all had mosquito nets and we were warned that there will be mosquitoes when we checked in. There were. Even with many mosquito repellants strategically placed, I would advice you carry a spray. But we did go during the rainy season. Our room had no bedside tables (triple/quad share room). It would be great if they can add those. There were insufficient electric sockets. Forgetting to bring my 3 way adapter, I asked to borrow one which they did not have. I think with the few sockets available in the room, they should be prepared to lend out adapters as all of us travel with so many electronic gadget these days.

Really good value for money. The place is quite cool, the typical backpacker hangout. The huts are cosy and perfect to spend 1 night in Ella. The breakfast was good, my kids ordered pancakes twice. The staff is super friendly and helpful, they even gifted us a citronella oil for the mosquitoes. (Not that there were many by the way).

Location was good.

The rustic design of the rooms is conceptually great, however we did not appreciate the amount of mosquitos and lizards which managed to get into the room because of the gaps in the wooden structure. The room was not clean, we had to use makeshift pillows because the cases had hair and stains and the internal pillows were yellow and stained. It was a very noisy night for us as we could hear noise from the town as well as two barking dogs which kept us up most of the night (note we stayed the previous night at a hotel 5 metres away and there was no noise of the town or dogs). No basic amenities in room such as shower gel, just a tiny little soap to wash hands with. No bottled water in the room. WiFi took a while to connect. The bathroom was full of leaks, when one tap was on, a pipe elsewhere would start to leak, the shower curtain was mouldy and it made having a shower an unpleasant experience, a plug socket in the shower (to which the electric shower was connected) made us uncomfortable and finally there was no power in the shower so made washing long hair very difficult. Although the hotel was relatively inexpensive, I would still expect basic amenities and a minimum level of cleanliness.
