I've been coming to Bwejuu for over twenty years now. This is a beautiful place. Very tranquil, simple luxury. The food is divine!!!! It was the perfect getaway.

Stunning location on a relatively quiet stretch of beach, perfectly located for sunrise and for a dip in the sea (seconds from the outdoor garden). Affable staff with two friendly resident dogs. Delicious food with good range of options made by local chefs including multiple vegetarian options (we stayed 3 nights and I had something different each night). Clean rooms refreshed each day.

I liked the location of the hotel, right on the beach a short distance from Paje. The hotel was a well-kept and clean. Very friendly staff, eager for conversations and helpful.

I didn't like the hotel's wifi policy, i.e. the use of the internet only around the restaurant with a code with a certain time validity. Pay extra at breakfast if you want an extra coffee. Even if the hotel is on the beach, at low tide the sea water recedes a lot, leaving behind a white mud and a beach without water (for a few hours).

My partner and I had the absolute best stay at Helwas! A true hidden gem that makes you feel right at home! They also have some of the best food that I have had in Zanzibar! The property is extremely clean with friendly staff and beautiful rooms! I will definitely be going back!

Breakfast is ok but you can order only one meal from the menu and it’s not enough for one person. Location is bad (not Hotel’s fault) and beach around hotel is not good for swimming and it’s not clean. They don’t change towels regularly and they’re overcharging taxi.

Beautiful setting right on the beachfront. Rooms are nice. Comfy beds. Good AC. Showers have hot water with good water pressure. Food was good - we weren’t blown away by the curry or the clam pasta, but desert was delicious. Waitresses were really friendly.

No wifi in the rooms - this was made worse by the (patronising) excuse that we should “be present” instead of on our phones - not helpful when one of our group had to then go to a room in a different hotel to have a private work call which would not have been suitable in a public area. Laundry fees are incredibly expensive; again, we had to go somewhere else for this. Breakfast is not at all worth the $12 - I had a small bland omelet and small plate of fruit. We have had far better breakfasts in other hotels in Tanzania. The mosquito nets have multiple large holes. No toiletries in the room other than hand soap.
