Helwas Beach Resort

I would highly recommend this property for couples looking for a quiet and comfortable stay in Zanzibar. The property was pretty and the rooms were equipped with everything you need. The food was delicious and the portions were big! The hosts were very accommodating I had some troubles with my flight I was due to arrive very early in the morning then due to disruptions I came very late at night but the hosts were ready to accommodate me at both times, at no extra cost.

The owners were incredibly friendly, open-minded, and helpful. We were the only guests during our stay, making it very peaceful. If you're looking for a quiet place to relax, this hotel is perfect. The breakfast and dinner were both delicious, and the staff was exceptionally kind and attentive. Although the room wasn't the most modern, the common areas were beautifully decorated with great attention to detail. The hotel is in a quiet area, about a 20-minute beach walk to Paje, where you'll find more restaurants and shops. At night, it's best to take a taxi or tuk tuk back to the hotel for safety.

Unfortunately, as the hotel is in a quieter area, it is recommended to take a taxi or tuk tuks at night. We would have appreciated having a means of transport to explore the area independently (maybe bike or scooter in the future).

Staff are friendly and warm. Location & view is breathtaking as it is over the whole coast. F&B are amazing and delicious. Very secured location & the guard keeps rounding the whole night.

Room smells like insects repellent a lil.

Helwas is an absolute paradise. The entire ambience of the accommodation is beautifully laid out in the interplay between wonderful plants and white sand, with the Indian Ocean right in front of the door. The rooms are spacious, very clean and lovingly decorated. The use of natural materials (throughout the entire area) is particularly impressive. The food is excellent and the cozy atmosphere - especially at evenings with some local live music - clearly stands out from the very touristy centers. The owners are very welcoming and helpful! All organizational questions (excursions, etc.) were clarified immediately. The personal exchange and interaction with one another exudes a particularly friendly atmosphere. As also the entire staff does who are very warm and accommodating. We felt comfortable being there the whole time! I can definitely recommend this place!

It was soooo nice!!! We loved the people there! They were so friendly. The room was perfect and the restaurant really really good!!!

Extremely nice and well decorated hotel right on the quiet beach in Bwejuu. Rooms are big, comfortable, clean and well equipped. Trees and plants keep the common spaces cool also during the hottest hours. The dining area is beautiful, ideal to enjoy meals and relax, while looking at the sea. Ursula and Geoffrey take good care of their guests and are always there to help. We particularly appreciated the possibility to get massages by two nice and professional ladies, coming directly to the room. We very much liked the cocktails and the cozy evening atmosphere, but did not taste the Italian and French dishes available at the restaurant - we heard they are good and it could be worth trying, if one wants to take a break from local cuisine.

Breakfast was good, but portions are relatively small (no buffet), in line with the rather elegant-minimalistic approach. Only few places to choose from if you decide not to eat at the hotel restaurant, as the village is not particularly lively (contrary to Paje). If you decide to pay cash for your drinks/meals, please be aware that the staff refuses notes with even the smallest flaw: it was the only place in Zanzibar where we had this kind of problem.

We had a great stay at Helwas hotel. The place is beautiful, very quiet and peaceful, with a nice beach in front of the hotel and a good restaurant. Our hosts were very kind and helpful. I can only recommend to stay there !

A wonderful place right on the beach with a fantastic view. It's clean, it's cozy and the service is excellent. The owners are very warm, helpful and welcoming and make you feel at home. The same goes for all the staff who work there. We can wholeheartedly recommend this place!
