Rangala House

I would recommend Rangala House to anyone, of any age. Take in the spectacular views on the terrace, while sipping a Rusty Duck - a delicious house cocktail made with arrack, Sri Lanka’s national liqueur. The rooms are wonderfully appointed - tasteful decor and lovely bathrooms, and our room had a balcony facing the jungle next to the house, full of chirping frogs enjoying the rain that provided a soporific background to fall asleep to at night (better than any ASMR). The staff were lovely and very thoughtful, helping us with all our requirements, and we loved getting to know Anthony, the charming owner. The pool is wonderful and surrounded by gorgeous flora and fauna crowned with those incredible views. The food is very good — tasty Sri Lankan curries that will leave you stuffed and ready to toddle off to bed after a nightcap. I felt truly relaxed and serene after my stay there. Hiking wise, there are spectacular walks from the House, but you can also pay a guide to take you trekking through the Knuckles mountains.

Rangala House is one of the best places we have ever stayed in. From when you walk through the door off the mountain road and are greeted by the owner and staff and see the breathtaking view from the balcony area, the high standard of accommodation and professionalism of the staff is very apparent. The interior is beautifully furnished, rooms very comfortable, the food is 5 star and the views and garden absolutely stunning. We also loved walking through the nearby tea plantations which the owner provides detail advice about. It was perfect and a credit to the vision of the owner.

What a special, special place! Despite only, regretfully, staying for one night, it was our favourite night of our whole 3 week trip to Sri Lanka. Unassuming from the roadside, once you step through the gates it’s a tropical paradise. The views are AMAZING- you could spend all day sat on the deck just staring out onto the horizon. The staff are the warmest most welcoming people, they are so so caring and just couldn’t be any nicer- we were so well looked after, especially when our taxi was late they came up with plans B and C to help us get to our next destination! We also enjoyed finding out about the history of Rangala from Anthony (the owner) and how they produce a lot of their own products on their 2 acres of land! They also have a restaurant in Bristol which, after tasting the food, we definitely will visit. The food was the best we ate during our whole stay. Who knew celery soup would be SO tasty and delicious?! Not to mention the Sri Lankan omelet we had for breakfast- it was incredible. The room was cosy and very comfortable, we loved listening to the animals before falling to sleep! You won’t regret your stay here. The most amazing place, absolutely stunning setting with the most beautiful views. Mesmerising sunset. Wonderful hosts. We felt so at home and welcome. We had breakfast and dinners here, both of which were delicious. And so many wonderful walks to do locally. Thank you for an incredible stay!

Rangala House is a very special place. The setting is so peaceful and beautiful, with a panoramic view that changes almost every time you blink. The staff are wonderful. Amala will help you with whatever you need and there is always someone around to serve drinks and food and to chat to about the gorgeous surroundings. They organised an Ayurvedic massage for us with a local man which was wonderful. Anthony, the owner, is incredibly warm and welcoming and a joy to be around. The chefs deserve a very special mention. The food at Rangala House was probably the best we had throughout the month we spent in Sri Lanka. As two backpackers travelling on a budget, we are so happy we decided to splurge a little and stay here - it was worth every penny. Thank you all!

We are 6 months in to a 1 year round the world trip … and Rangala House is now in the number 1 spot on our list of favourite places we have stayed! The property itself is beautiful and comfortable with huge rooms and beds and a large veranda with comfy seating overlooking the pool and down to the jungle covered valley below - the views are incredible. It could easily be used as a base for hiking in the Knuckles mountains, for a day trip to Kandy (1hr drive away) or simply for serious relaxation (which is what we did). The staff and service can not be faulted, the whole team have a rare and special skill of making you feel so well looked after whilst giving you as much privacy as you need. We were so relaxed here it felt like we were living in our own dream home. The team are the nicest we’ve ever experienced - so kind and attentive, and the food and drinks are some of the most delicious we’ve had in Sri Lanka. Thanks so much to Anthony, Amala, Lawrence, Sameer and Chandra - Rangala House is very special and we hope to be back one day!

AMAZING view, amazing food, great and sweet staff. Really nice pool. Great walks in the area. We also visited the tea factory which was very insightful. Some grey hornbills right outside our window ♥️ We felt very comfortable and at home and at ease at Rangala House. Highly recommend to stay! Don’t doubt, book!

One tiny point for improvement is the water pressure in the shower.

Excellent property, excellent location, excellent staff.

Nothing for us, but if you don't like somewhere hard to get to, it might not be for you. We thought it was more than worth it though.

You cannot go to Sri Lanka and not stay in Rangala House - it is a MUST visit! The property is hidden away in the Knuckles Range and really offers a get away of the best kind. Immersed in beautiful Sri Lankan countryside, I could have stayed here forever. The staff were exceptional and we were incredibly well looked-after for the duration of our visit. They went above and beyond to made sure we were comfortable, that we had everything we needed and I can't thank them enough for their hospitality. The food was also incredible and some of the best we ate while in Sri Lanka. It is prepared in front of you over the course of the day and both lunch and dinner were a real feast. What a beautiful place to come and unwind, relax and bask in the very best of what Sri Lanka has to offer.

Could not fault this place - truly exceptional!

Most amazing location and the view. Anthony and the staff were one big family who look after me. Pool has no chlorine and has been clean with the 21 century technology. Food was great. I was lucky because I was the only guest that night. Thank you everyone. 👍🙏
