Guesthouse Ogawaya

Location is good - a few minutes walk from Tanabe station. We arrived late and left early so didn't have much time there but it was fine, a standard small ryokan. The proprietor communicated well with us and was helpful when we arrived and then left us on our own.

Downstairs toilet and bathroom were a little cold. Would be better to have a shower room upstairs near the bedrooms.

The beds are comfortable and warm

The owner was super friendly and polite, I arrived late in the evening but she had been waiting for my arrival and suggested me to visit Shirayama which turned out to be a fantastic trip. The house was super clean and organized.

It’s too cold in the house. There’s no hot running water for washing hands and face. Every time going to toilet and bath was a struggle.

the staff is very helpful and friendly. he wasn't sure if I needed to be charge for using the washing machine. He gone as far as calling the owner to find out. once he found out, he refund the money. Honestly, I wouldn't notice if he didn't refund me. He was very honest. thank you. the venue was very cheap and very spacious. you basically have the whole accommodation to yourself when the employee closes the coffee shop downstairs. my partner loves the setting. Do bear in mind that it is not a flush toilet but long drop. but it didn't bother us as the toilet is far away from our room.

it was really windy that night and all the windows were making a lot of noises. we woke up a lot during the night. We noticed that there was a door halfway through the corridor and we wondered if it would stop the wind shaking the window. it did help. it's always helpful to have ear plugs.

Excellent value for money with our sleeping area as pictured. Very spacious accommodation. We were the only guests there, so of course very quiet and private. Our room was upstairs, with main toilet, bathroom and kitchen all downstairs. Our host was lovely and spoke some English very well and took time to explain things. This is a good value property for the price you pay - 2 min walk from Kii-Tanabe station and bus stop to Takijiri if you’re starting the Kumano kodo. Meals not included, but plenty of options in the area (though dinner/ Izakaya open after 6ish in most places) and we purchased some breakfast options at 7/11.
