Minara Guest House

This has everything you need as a solo budget traveller. Clean, inexpensive, comfortable rooms away from the main strip but everything is within walking distance. The owner Kamara is a wonderful person who couldn't be more helpful.

We stayed at this accommodation for a week, and it was an amazing experience. The host was wonderful, and the cleanliness was absolutely impeccable. They also have a fully functional kitchen. The surrounding nature was breathtaking, full of wildlife, including a shy species of monkeys that would wander through the yard in the early morning and just before sunset, sometimes stopping for a few minutes. It was such a special sight! The location is also fantastic—very close to the beach, making it easy to enjoy the sea and relax. Our stay was truly peaceful and beautiful!

Lovely, quiet, natural setting just away from the main street. Lots of monkeys and wildlife to watch. Near a little calm cove good for swimming. Very kind and friendly family. Thank you.

Only suggestion would be having the fan have different levels, only option was full blast (too cold & a bit noisy) or completely off. Very minor though otherwise perfect!

Location and helpful host.

The location was ok and near turtle beach. The price was very cheap but the facilities reflected the price.

The room does not have AC. It had a ceiling fan and the room was hotter inside than it was outside. Lots of mosquitos in the courtyard. Wi-Fi didn’t work. Room door had a large gap which we had the spray with mosquito repellent to prevent mosquitoes coming in during the night. Host very slow to respond. The positive reviews of the host was one of the main reasons for booking.

Update: Host is extremely rude. He couldn't handle this honest review. Instead of addressing the below review he texted me on WhatsApp using foul language (you can see the screenshot of the chat) Original Review: 1) The property doesn't have proper access road. The path to the building from the road is all mud and poorly lit. Though there's an entrance on to the main road, the building is atleast 60 meters away. My driver couldn't locate the entrance, he walked into the property to find someone. There wasn't anyone, he had to call them and ask them to meet us 2) The property care takers/owners stay at a adjacent building. Have to get down for everything walk a bit and call them 3) The building is gloomy, dark and old and looks haunted. The rooms and facilities are extremely basic. This is a super budget stay and definitely not matching to the price quoted on Booking.com 4) There's no functional restaurant/kitchen. We initially wanted to ask them to prepare for breakfast. But we were in awe when the host mentioned that there's no kitchen and even a tea couldn't be prepared. Later, after insisting he hesitantly prepared tea. But that was the worst we had in the entire 8 day Sri Lanka stay 5) There were mosquitos all around. There were mosquito nets for the bed but that doesn't help for the room 6) The property is poorly managed. Poor door locks, broken mirrors, dim lights, uncleaned lobby. There was poop of a dog or cat at the start of the stairs. Looked ugly to see this first after waking up 7) Had booked 3 rooms thinking all were with AC. Later got to know that one was only with a fan. The fan was too slow and the room didn't have windows. However, the listing showed photos which had windows. Only in the description it was mentioned about the fan 8) No chairs or cupboards in the room. Just the bed, table and a bedside cabinet 9) Noisy and leaking AC.
