Rainforest River Bay

Rooms were nice and clean. The view was amazing from the rooms and the breakfast was very good as well. The family was super friendly and sympathic. The father is also a Tourguide and knows a lot. For us it was also amazing to see the start of the school which is next to the place. There is a morning chanting in the school which impressed us a lot also. We also had dinner and lunch. Which was just amazing. Different curries like Okra,. potatoes,...

This was our second visit to Rainforest River Bay, and we were fortunate to be offered a free upgrade to a family room, which was much better than the standard room. The family space is located on the top floor and has a room two beds (one double, one regular) and two spacious balconies. One of them features a large table, along with a comfortable sofa and armchairs, creating a private space where you can relax with your family. Breakfasts were included in our stay, and we also ordered dinners from the host. The food was perfect and delicious. Both the owner and his wife are very kind people. The owner works at Sinharaja National Park and can guide you through the park if you're interested. The location is excellent, just 100 meters from the main road, in the natural bay of Gin Ganga, giving you the feeling of staying in the jungle. There’s a small forest next to the lodge where you can safely explore the local wildlife at night. You can even take a dip in the river if you like. Overall, I highly recommend this property for nature lovers.

The primary school is directly in front of the building. Since we wake up early and spend most of our time in the field with the camera, this wasn’t a problem. Access from the main road might be challenging for a small car, but since we came by motorcycle, it wasn’t an issue too

We stayed at this guesthouse on a motorcycle trip and were surprised when Booking provided a free upgrade to a fantastic family room! It was on the top 2nd floor with two big balconies. One balcony is a spacy private lobby area that has a big table, TV, sofa, and armchairs - perfect for relaxing after rainforest adventures. Keep in mind, the budget room on the first floor is much smaller and located next to the kitchen on the 1st floor. The location is amazing! Set right on a natural turn of the Gin Ganga river, it offers a true jungle experience, especially in the evenings and nights. It's much quieter here compared to the crowded areas near the Sinharaja forest entrance. There's one minor thing to consider - there's a local school right in front, so it can get a little noisy in the mornings around 7-8am. However, we woke up at 6am anyway to watch the birds (and there were plenty to photograph!). The last 100 meters between the road and the guesthouse can be a bit challenging if you arrive in a small car. However, it's fine for a tuk-tuk or motorcycle. The owners were fantastic. Breakfast was delicious, and they offered amazing local dinners for a very reasonable price (1500 Rs per person). We also tried their pot of tea (300 Rs) and it was unlike anything we've ever had - simply fantastic! Kasun and his father are experienced guides and they can lead you on rainforest walks. Overall, this guesthouse was a perfect escape for our Sinharaja adventure. Highly recommended!

The water heater in the family room was broken. We informed the owner and hopefully it will be fixed promptly

Wonderful family and a great place to stay. The room is the entire top floor, there's a living area, seperate bedroom and balcony. Definitely great value for money. Perfect location close to the start of the rainforest trekking path. The food cooked by the family is fantastic, huge portions and really tasty. I did the rainforest trek with the host and he was great, he will spot animals out of nowhere, quite amazing.

Great accomodation, close to the rainforest. We had a whole flor with to balconies for our own. The hosts are such warmhearted people. We even got a great dinner. The pineapple juice was delicious.

I can highly recommend this place! We stayed for two nights and was just perfect. What is to mention, that the accommodation is the complete third floor, so you have a lot of privacy and a living room including eating table, where you eat the breakfast. Every room is very open, so you can enjoy all the time the nice view into the nature and river. Everything was very clean and pleasant. The host is a rainforest tour guide, so we went for a tour with him. 100 % recommendation. Also we received dinner from his wife for little money, which was tasty and so lovely!

The owners were very nice people and we had plenty of space for the family with three kids. It's at the edge of the rainforest, and everything is green around the house. The breakfast was perfect, even my choosy daughter had good variety. We had a rainforest tour with the owner's father, and this little old man was the best choice we could make. He spotted all the animals on the way and simply couldn't stop explaining everything on the way, and finally we ended up having the tour two hours longer than planned. If you also go with him give our greetings to him. We would return any time.

As everybody commented, very good spot for Sinharaja rainforest tour. Kasun, the host, is a great tour guide through the rainforest. He explained very detailled to us, with great experience, fluent English and his pleasant voice. Also he took us the 1500m with his tuctuc to the entrance. His wife cooked delicious dinner and breakfast and even prepared a nice lunch box for the hike. Thank you so much for welcoming us so warmly we had a wonderful stay in you home!

Lovely family. I had a great time there. All confort at the edge of the jungle. Discovery of new fruits a'd vegetables in my plate. What to expect better. I came also for an exploration of the forest with the father. We saw many animals including snakes an scorpios that he has the magical to spot out. So knowledgeable about all plants. And yes there are olives in Sri lanka.
