Path to hotel from all chowrastaa was horrible narrow.

The location was good, right in the action. The view from the balcony was cool.

The room was a bit pokey, very small. The treck through the alley ways to reach the hotel was like an endurance test. All part of the fun. Hotel staff/porters essential to carry luggage. The noise and pollution was intense 😵‍💫

This was my third or fourth stay at Scindhia Guest House, having first stayed there in 2006. It's a comfortable and welcoming inn to which I always look forward on my travels in India. The location is perfect for touring the ghats and riverfront, as well as the colorful galis (alleyways/lanes) around the ghats. The guest house is perched above the unique Scindhia Ghat. Simply looking out the window or from the balcony provides an excellent view of the activity on the river and ghats below. A two-minute walk out the door and down the outside stairs and you're in the middle of all the goings-on of river-bathing, boat rides, chai- and chaat-wallahs, cows, goats, sadhus, and pujas. I appreciated the security of gated entry and the constant presence of either the owner or other staff at the reception area. The room was very clean, with comfortable and neat bed (I asked for and was given an bright-white extra flat sheet due to the warm weather, as blankets were unnecessary), recently renovated, and well-lit by a large window that looks out over the river, as well as a door (with a useful external screen door) that opens to the balcony overlooking the river and ghats. The owner and his family are very helpful and friendly. He communicated promptly with me regarding transportation to the guest house from the train station when I arrived in Varanasi and arranged transportation onward by car to Mughalsarai train station at the end of my stay. I recommend the breakfast cornflakes with honey and banana, as well as the chai and other food. Overall, I highly recommend Scindhia Guest House and will definitely stay there again when I'm next in Varanasi.

The only thing that I would have changed was that the showerhead dripped after showers, making some of the bathroom floor wet some of the time (if you're traveling to India for the first time, take note that the showers are usually part of the bathroom and not separated by door or curtain). Otherwise, I liked everything about my stay.

View from the balcony was nice

Room was not big as shows in the photos plus full of dust inside the room, doors are not closing properly and sound and dust always coming inside room.

Facilities are a little limited and it’s quite a basic set up

The view from the room was amazing. Great location.

Downstairs in the main area there were mice. Many mice. That’s not a good sign to have mice running around freely. Perhaps set some mouse traps and or get a cat. The cleaning guy would just come on to the balcony in front of my room with no warning and start cleaning and that felt like and invasion of privacy as I’m in my room in the bed and he’s walking in front of the window staring at me. It would make sense to knock on my door and let me know he is coming so that im not surprised. The elevator would play this song over and over and was very loud. There’s no reason for loud elevator music. Suggest turning that off.
