Vallum House

A warm and friendly welcome and my request for a quiet room had resulted in a free upgrade to a lovely en-suite double bedroom. Sadly I had eaten before arrival so missed the excellent food available and had to leave early and so missed breakfast. The Hotel clearly has a good reputation for food locally as they were busy with non-resident diners. Good private car park and a well-kept pleasant and secluded garden to the rear. Just 10 minutes of the M6 and easy to find. No main road outside so no traffic noise and a good night's sleep. I'll be going back to get my (missed) brekkers!

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were great, friendly and helpful. We loved that there is a bar and restaurant on premises. We were walking Hadrian's Wall and this guest house is further from the path than we realized (totally our fault) but close to the bus into Carlisle. Would definitely recommend and will stay again if we're in Carlisle.

Subject: Complaint about Vallum House in Cumbria Dear Booking.com Customer Service, I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with my recent stay at Vallum House in Cumbria, booked through your platform. I believe it is crucial to bring to your attention the issues I encountered during my stay, as they greatly impacted my overall experience. On 28/5 , I arrived at Vallum House at 10 pm after a long and challenging day. I was dismayed to find that there were no fridges in the room or dining area, and there was also no microwave available for guests to use. It was explained to me that the kitchen, where the microwave is located, is strictly for staff use only due to health and safety regulations. This limitation was not communicated to me prior to my arrival or during the booking process. As a frequent traveler and a highly regarded reviewer on booking platforms such as Booking.com and TripAdvisor, I have never encountered such a problem before. While I understand that Vallum House may not offer self-catering facilities, I believe that providing basic amenities such as a fridge and microwave for guests to safely store and heat their food is essential. The lack of these amenities greatly inconvenienced me, as I had brought food with me that needed refrigeration and required heating. I approached the person at the front desk, who seemed indifferent to my concerns and prioritized financial matters over customer satisfaction. As a valued customer, I expect a certain level of service and comfort during my stays. The absence of essential amenities, coupled with the dismissive attitude of the staff, has led me to question the integrity and professionalism of Vallum House. I would like to inform you that I am disputing this booking and I am prepared to take this matter to court if necessary, in order to exercise my rights as a customer.

Ellena's kindness, and the patience with which she waited until my late arrival... The divine breakfast, the super cleaner room, all perfect.

Small room

Staff were lovely, location and parking was great.

Breakfast didn't live up to expectations- had to go to Morrisons. The shower ran cold/Luke warm water at its best only, WIFI didn't work at all, rooms very cold, beds had plastic sheets underneath the sheet, and mould round the window sills.
