Sun Wind Beach Kalpitiya Kite Resort

- Susantha is wonderful and welcoming. Charismatic, and keen to ensure you hav a great stay. It feels like he knows everyone, and he will regale you with local stories. - Cosy family vibes. Everyone who works there is part of Susanthas family. I felt welcomed, and tis a great environment for meeting other guests. - breakfast was tasty and genuine. - Fan and mosquito net in my room meant I slept well despite the heat.

- Dinner expensive by sri lankan standards ~8 euros. - The location is too distant from the nearby town to walk. I definitely recommend hiring a scooter, which you probably hav to do from Colombo. - The nearby lagoon (kalpitya lagoon) is not good for kitesfurfing, wind is too gusty. They offer a visit at another location (puttalam island), transport and lunch available, but it costs extra. - The pictures on this site are a little out of date. Since they were taken, things hav decayed a little. Many of the aesthetic touches have fallen down, so the place doesn't look as nice as it once did. My room was quite dusty. - Toilets pretty basic. They work, just dont expect luxury. I guess that the pictures are of the ensuite rooms, wich may indeed be nicer. - I would have appreciated a mat in my room, something to brush the sand off my feet. - Cosy vibes almost felt oppressive, I felt bad for doing other things. - Kite lessons are rough and ready. Fine if you mostly know what your doing, but perhaps a beginner would learn better elsewhere.

- comfortable and clean room - there is bigger place with tables and fridge - breakfast could be little bit bigger but the dinner was huge and delicous - owner is helpull and friendly :)

- expensive dinner - 8 eur per person - weather conditions in the lagoon aren't good. The wind is gusting and not laminar. They charge 20 eur per person to go to another spot (transport and dinner included)

Go here if you’re after a tight knit friendly family vibe. The single rooms are simple and come with a good quality fan to stay cool as well as a mosquito net. Mama’s cooking is the best in Kalpitiya, especially the pumpkin curry :) Susantha’s staff / family are all super nice and supportive even with beginners, don’t think they’re being standoffish they’re just not as confident speaking English. The island trip is highly recommended, an unbelievable desert island spot with perfect wind and flat water.

Only improvements I would suggest are a bedside lamp, extension cable for rooms (currently only one socket for fan) and that’s it!

Susantha’s family-run kite surf resort in Kalpitiya is an absolute gem. The kite lessons are top-notch, and the trips to Putalan Island in the lagoon are pure magic—perfect wind, no crowds, and stunning scenery. The accommodations are cozy, and the community vibe makes you feel right at home. Dinner, prepared by Susantha’s mom, is sensational and a true highlight of the stay. This is hands down the best kitesurfing spot I've ever experienced. Highly recommended!

Sunsantha was a great host. The breakfast is nice and the organize kite trips which were very fun! Nice Kite Community! In terms of kite surfing gear they have good kites in my opinion but the boards are very old and not of good quality…

Shared bathroom was not clean and there were no trash cans in the bathroom nor the bedroom. Location is a little far from everything but I knew that before booking.

Susantha makes us feel like we are home, it’s welcoming, great vibes, we had the feeling to be part of a group from the very first day we arrived, so nice ! Food is very good and diverse from one day to another ! Place is close from the spot, no need to describe the lagoon, amazing spot especially for beginners !

Had an amazing time at Sun Wind Beach and would definitely recommend staying here. The lagoon is perfect to learn how to kite and Susantha and his team are great teachers and make sure that you'll have fun in the process. After kite sessions are also a reason to stay here; chilling, sharing the Sri Lankan dinners made by Subha (Susantha's cousin), discussing the wind conditions, drinking a few beers and making jokes ;) I'll difinitely be back!!

Amazing stay at Sun Wind Beach, Susantha and his team are awesome. A clean room and delicious home cooked meals every night with a really homely atmosphere. I did not want to leave!
