The Retreat at Groenfontein - No Self Catering

The landscape and nature, lovely pool, garden, beautiful walks and friendly and helpful staff, great breakfast, meals served on the stoep looking out on the garden. It was nice to interact with the other guests. Marie and Erika were the most gracious hosts. We had morning tea and lovely rusks delivered to our room very early in the morning. The whole place has an old world charm about it. If you just want peace and quiet, this is the place to go.

The coffee. A proper coffee machine would be great. The linen in the bedrooms and table serviettes look a bit tired. The seating on the chairs on the patio need replacement.

It is an incredibly beautiful set of buildings in an area of astounding natural beauty. Birds flock here and you can understand why.

The Retreat is a charming estate in remote Groenfontein. The main house is elegant and historic, with a lovely veranda where breakfast and dinner are served, giving an opportunity to meet the other guests (many of whom are return visitors). Delicious food, and Marie and the rest of the staff are very friendly and attentive.

Everything was great. If I had to point out suggestions for improvement they would be to remove the cleaning equipment from the swimming pool early in the morning, and to serve drinks to guests there.

Amazing setting! Loved the communal dining and the beautiful room. Have already booked our return!

It’s is a gem in the wilderness

The location is divine... Gorgeous trails. Nice food.

The discomfort of the extremely CHEAP mattress and lack of any tea/coffee facilities in the room.... The bed linen smelt musty and the pillows were flat....especially after spending hours on the trail... Arguably the cheapest spring mattress... Hurt my back and ruined my nights sleep.

Wonderful location with great bird life and walking trails
