Pongkham Residence

The accomodation is nice, but the true gem are the very sweet and helpful owners! You get loads of advice and insider knowledge, the breakfast is great and bicycles are available for free.

The location isn't totally central, but since you can hop on one of the free bicycles whenever you want, it doesn't matter that much.

I had a terrible experience with the owner/staff of the property Mr. Wan. He sold me a train ticket to Vang Vieng that did not exist! He took the money from me and said everything is booked and sorted out. It was not the case and I ended up with no train ticket. Because of this my plans were ruined, I was stressed out and had to change my itinerary. His behavior was completely unacceptable, he was rude, very unhelpful, extremely difficult to talk to and get a meaningful resolution. He was shouting at me and hang up on me while he still had my money for the train ticket. One Lao guy thankfully helped me to get the money back from him as he refused talking to me. I would never ever book anything with him, extremely disappointed by this incident that affected heavily my trip to Luang Prabang/Nong Kiaw, hence I reflected this very unpleasant incident in my review of the property. He said that the train is full and there are no other trains available during the weekend which was absolutely not true - I then got a train ticket easily from a different agency once I got my money back from him with the help of other people. His behavior was just beyond belief and he pretended that he has not much to do with the whole situation and left me in limbo. Consider renting a scooter and get your train ticket on your own directly at Luang Prabang train station station and think twice who you book with!

The hosts were extremely helpful and friendly - they made us feel very comfortable. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The price was very reasonable for the service. I would say this reflected the location which is a little out of the centre but there were free bikes to use that made up for this.

The wifi did not always completely reach the rooms but I knew I could get good wifi if I went down to the breakfast area.

We loved everything about our stay at Pongkham! The owner and family are very friendly and welcoming. We started our stay by receiving all the best advices and places to go in LP. The owner gives you tips on places in order to avoid the touristic trap. We followed his advices and really enjoyed our time in the city. The breakfast served every morning was a delight with the homemade jam. The free bikes were perfect to go into town - not more than 10 minutes ride. The rooms are confortable, the balcony and the view of the mountains is a plus!

As everywhere in Laos, be aware that there are roosters in the neighbourhood - which wasn't an issue for us.

Great spacious room, lovely staff and everything is there. Comfy beds. I stayed for 10 night because I really felt at home.

The property style and feel is superb. Breakfast and hire of bicycles (with helmet option!) included. Lovely manager, chef and all-round good guy as the host. I would stay again… and it’s not as far as you’d think from the main areas of Luang Prabang. Easily walkable! Thanks!!
