North View cottage. Shaldon village.

North View Cottage was so lovely, and perfect for our Xmas break away somewhere different. The cottage was warm, cosy and all the comforts of home were included in the furnishings and essentials.

I can't think of anything I didn't like! It was such a good space to cook, eat our meals, relax and just a short stroll to the fabulous walks and pubs/restaurants that Shaldon has to offer. Really nice kitchen and bathroom and very cosy and quiet.

It was clean and comfortable

The rats in the loft and the fact that they are insisting they are mice - unless the mice have really big boots on. Kept awake for both nights of our stay because of rats in the loft chewing on something (too loud for it to be a mouse). Was told we'd get a 20% refund, haven't had it. The person who I called when we hadn't been sent the key code like we were supposed to said we can go and see if its clean, it might be, it might not be - seemed very rude like we'd bothered her. Definitely wouldn't stay again, which is a shame because the house is actually really nice and the location is great.

Very convenient location and clearly the owners have spent money on the property although more needs to be done to make it more homely, comfortable and I'd say safe. Lovely bathroom and nice quality bedlinen were nice touches and the wood burner was great and much needed as the house downstairs was painfully cold.

This is not intended to sound horribly critical as outwardly the house is lovely but I am a firm believer that feedback, be it positive or negative, is a good thing as it can help to finesse one's product... - Front door is old and drafty so extra draft proofing would definitely be very beneficial - Inner door catches on the flagstones floor so it needs to be taken off and planed to fit; additional draft proofing is also desperately needed to this door as the draft was off the chart - Painted stairs are notoriously dangerous so I would strongly encourage the owners to consider fitting carpet runners which needn't affect the character of the property (particularly noteworthy as guests are encouraged to remove their shoes) - Position of handrail/rope should probably be checked as even at 5'5" tall I struggled with how low this was which made the stairs challenging - Outside courtyard small as expected but I'd urge the owners to add a piece of artificial turf to spruce the area up, particularly as the house is dog friendly - Sitting room window - unable to open the shutter which appeared to be bolted shut - TV setup very hit and miss and instructions poor and in fact I had no TV two out of three days - Wood burner - a much needed addition as the downstairs was freezing but leaving four small logs for someone visiting in late November seems very mean (I spent £25 on wood but it's not feasible to leave a log burner going 24/7 so even using that during the day/evening and with the boiler on, downstairs was just too cold for me so I eventually left a day early) One final thing I will just add is the "visitor info sheet" would benefit from being updated. I'd suggest adding in information about rubbish/recycling, info about how to use/clean the wood burner and where to buy wood locally, and whether the bed(s) should be stripped prior to checkout.

Beautiful cottage with everything you need, comfy living area and a fully equipped kitchen. Beds very comfortable and nice sized bathroom. Two minute walk to the waterfront and shops. Highly recommended
