Fern Cottage Iden, Rye

Spacious property with comfortable rooms and access to a courtyard garden.

Comfortable and well equipped cottage for a relaxing break. Great location near Rye and the beach at Camber. Child friendly, quiet and spacious space for a small family to have a nice holiday.

Just needs a few more everyday items e.g oil, chopping board, recycling bin, in the kitchen.

We liked that it was not far from Rye. Also there were a few puzzles and family games and a fire place.

The first thing that hit us as we walked in, was a very strong musty smell due to damp issues. Our clothes and hair smelled of it. It was gross. I would have booked elsewhere but we only had 2 nights so we stayed put. Think basement/old-fashion unventilated antique shop. There was also a large patch of black mould in the kitchen near the dining table, which was a heath and safety concern and not nice to look at or inhale its spores. The kitchen appliances were old, plasticky, dirty and cheap, mismatched hand-me-downs or charity shop finds, which cheapened the cottage. It didn't feel well considered, given it is a hospitality business.The decor's identity was lost between traditional, formal, coastal, country and chabby-chic. The advertised garden was neglected and a missed opportunity on a sunny Easter week. There were cobwebs and spiders and areas which needed a good spring clean. There was a dirty tray in the oven. There was a jar of what looked like contaminated sugar enough for two teaspoons, which might as well have been thrown. We just felt like the owners did not make much of an effort really for paying guests. The cottage could be a lovely little gem with some time and money investment and regular maintenance. Also it is on a main road, so you will hear cars even with the windows closed. Parking is available on the road, just around the corner.

We had two nights at Fern Cottage which is great accommodation and has everything necessary for a short stay and also for a longer stay. Very close to the town of Rye and many other attractions. Good communication with the owners, everything as described and no issues.

We had a lovely relaxing stay at Fern Cottage. The cottage itself had everything we needed, including a high chair and travel cot set up for our baby girl. The log burner in the lounge and blankets provided made the evenings on the sofa very cosy indeed. It was obvious that the cottage had been thoroughly cleaned before we arrived which was much appreciated.

A very minor point but for me personally I found the pillows on the bed to be quite flat and was difficult to get comfortable.

The house felt so homely , and the sitting room so cosy to relax in. It must be lovely in the winter with the log burner going. The kitchen area is airy and practical, and nice to have the view over the courtyard at the back. Was lovely sitting outside in the morning with a coffee, lazily watching the bees at work on the flowers! All in all a very relaxing house to stay in. The parking was no problem; we parked outside to unload, and there was always space just round the corner .Bedrooms and bathroom really nice too. Perfect situation for visiting Rye and surrounding area.

Comfortable beds. Cool living room. Clean. Communication with owners excellent. Small garden is a sun trap.
