"Lovely Castle Cottage 21st to 24th April"

9.0

Pretty much everything, it was beautiful! Top thing, the location, literally as close to the Castle as you can get without actually being in the grounds! Then, on the other side, the Cathedral, with stunning views of both from either side of the main living / dining area and surrounded by Pubs, Hotel bars etc but quiet. Despite this incredibly good situation there is parking very close by. The provided permit allows roadside parking, and if no space available there is a Council run car park at the back which you can actually see from the Patio / bedroom should security be a concern. It's very comfortable and cosy but not at all cramped due to high ceilings and stylish decor. We didn't meet our host but she kindly contacted me to check everything was ok for me (I'd asked some questions regarding the stairs as a broken ankle a couple of years ago means my flexibility isn't what it was) and I felt confident I could contact her easily should I need to but all instructions (such as checking in) were clear. Cooking facilities were more than adequate (hubby loved the oven) if compact although there not being a table downstairs does mean you need to transport items up and down the stairs which was fine for our pretty basic meals (and a sturdy tray is provided) but might be a consideration if planning something fancier. The view from the Dining Table (even more the patio where there are tables and chairs) is showing lovely it is more than worth the effort. In fact the living accomodation (lounge, DR, bedroom) is all so nice, with stunning views. It was just so lovely to look out on the floodlit castle and cathedral as we unwound from the day.

I really don't want to say anything negative as the only thing not to like is a direct consequence of the cottages age which is also part of the cottages charm, and made very clear on the property details but as many will want to know. The stairs. They are, as you'd expect for a period property in a hilly town, narrower and steeper than modern houses. But, they weren't anywhere near as difficult but as I'd feared from some of the reviews and there is either a hand rail or bannister to hold on to for support. I have a stiff ankle due to a fracture a couple of years ago, plus bursitis of the hip and I, with care, managed. So yes, they might be a concern for the elderly or disabled (as stated in the details) but this partially limited person managed and the cottage is so lovely, the views so wonderful, it was worth the effort. They wouldn't put me off booking it again. I might also add that Susan was very helpful, and considerate in providing information on them before going and checking I was ok once there. So, the sole negative (only reason I marked down facilities) is far outweighed by all the positives.

"Relaxing and rejuvenating, enhanced by amazing restaurants, cathedral and castle nearby."

Location was excellent, well equipped and clean.

Extra towels in downstairs bathroom. Street parking difficult, had a permit but chose to pay 10 pounds for 24 hr parking, could see car from outdoor upstairs garden.

Lovely cottage excellent location by Steep Hill Castle & Cathedral well equipped kitchen & bathrooms, ensuite as well as ground floor bathroom, tea coffee & biscuits on arrival too. Lovely outside sitting area, stairs a little awkward with food and drink in your hand ( living room on 1st floor) but typical of very old properties .Loads of places to eat drink & visit within a stones throw of the cottage.

"A gem of a cottage in a fabulous location."

10.0

The location of the property was absolutely amazing. Couldn't have had anywhere better, view of the cathedral towers from the front and the castle turret from the back, all the heritage and facilities were on the doorstep, less than a minutes walk from the front door of the accomodation.. The owner of the property left us a Parking permit for visitor parking, but we didn't use it, as parking was limited, but there was a Lincoln council car park next to the property at £9.80 per 24 hours which is very reasonable. The owner left lots of items for our stay, very well equipped with toiletries, kitchen items etc, very thoughtful and attentive. The bed was amazingly comfortable, the bedding was lovely quality, comfy sofas, the property was lovely and warm, the balcony garden a massive bonus, the road we were on was quiet; all in all it was brilliant accommodation, location and fantastic for the price.

Absolutely faultless, apart from just one little recommendation - a little bottle of milk in the fridge would have been a big welcome plus, as we were gasping for a cuppa when we arrived. However, there was a cafe nearby until we located a shop selling milk. Apart from that, there was nothing we didn't like, it was exceptional.

As described and even better 🙂 Quiet location but with an array of amenities within close proximity. Beautiful views of the castle and cathedral. Cottage was clean with added little luxury items such as milk, high quality toiletries and scented candles Nothing negative to say about this little gem of a short stay cottage
