Somersal Cottages

Beautiful, spacious house with comfortable beds. Very clean and well designed.

Needed some games and some chalk for the pool cues.

The house is welcoming and homely, very comfortable but not so 'perfect' that you feel you have to be super careful! The kitchen is great, having TWO dishwashers, TWO range ovens and plenty of cooking utensils, cutlery, crockery etc. However, if 20 people were staying there, they would not have been able to comfortably sit to eat together. Initially we were cold, but we contacted Josh who explained how to turn up the thermostat and offered to pop round if we had a further problem. Two comfortable lounges give plenty of space for different groupings. The games room in the basement was a huge hit with our family - we held a table tennis tournament (!!) and enjoyed the snooker table. Others in our party played tennis, and they felt that the court could have done to have had a jet wash as it was a bit slippery. We were a three generational group of 14 people, so the bedroom arrangements were fine, but if the maximum number of people stayed they would have to know each other well as there would be a need for shared bedrooms! (On the third floor there are two bedrooms, one with 3 single beds, the other with 4 single beds. 3 rooms have a double and single bed) Two bedrooms are ensuite, with bath and hand held shower heads; there are enough bathrooms for other bedrooms, and some of the rooms also have wash basins). The large downstairs bedroom was useful for our less able guest. We hired a hot tub which was great and, for us, worth the extra cost. Had we been at the property when the weather was warm, there were lots of picnic tables to be able to eat outside.

The check out time is very early (9.15) if the whole party had been leaving together. (A few of us stayed an extra night which meant that our last day together could be a full day at the property.) Unfortunately we were woken by people using our hot tub at 2.30am (this is not a complaint to the owners as it wasn't their fault). Perhaps it would be possible to make it fenced off from other properties in some way.

The cottage has the perfect layout for a large family gathering... Enough space to all spend time together or to break off into your own room when needed. Great space to entertain with a large dining table so you can all eat together, and play games together in the evening. The location is really rural and lovely and calm. The back 'garden' is vast; great for the kids to play in and explore. The cottage itself was lovely and clean and everybody (there were 15 of us including the kids!) absolutely loved it. There are some nice walks around the cottage and there's a zoo not too far away that made for a nice day out too! Overall it's the perfect cottage for what we wanted; we'll be coming back for sure!

The electric stove was temperamental which made it a little difficult to cook for a large group at times, but it did work. Other small things... The pool table has seen better days and there were a few imperfections around the cottage like cracked tiles etc that didn't bother us as a group at all, but it did make me worry that those may be blamed on us.

The WIFI was down for the majority of the time we were there

Comfortable furnishings and nice location with easy driving distance of pubs for lunch and walks Decent facilities and warm When we reported a problem with the dishwasher the owners sent a repair-man immediately which was good.

Cleaners waiting outside the door before 0900 for us to leave on the day of check out. The check in time of 1630 and check out time of 0915 is already incredibly restrictive and reduced the length, value and time of our stay - having people arrive and waiting (however patiently) as you are trying to say your goodbyes and pack the car is just unpleasant Place is a bit worn really - lots of scuffs and worn equipment (pool table baize was totally ruined) and the water pressure was such that only one person could shower at a time. Nice enough place but not really a luxury stay.

The layout was superb with the living area very separate from the bedrooms, there was plenty of space outside, and it was very well equipped the only thing missing was a pair of scissors and a corkscrew!

There wasn’t anything I didn’t like, I perhaps would have preferred thereto be a shop or pub slightly closer, a curtesy pack would have been nice we have stayed in many holiday cottages and all have left a pack of essential items and sometimes treats.Also a brochure of local amenities, walks and recommendations of local pubs/restaurants would also have been helpful.

Spacious, super clean and well equipped for a large family gathering . And we loved the hot tub. Second time at the venue and facilities continue to be improved- the waterfall showers for example with continuous hot water

No corkscrews in either property- so we left one :). Tennis court was very slippery sadly. Other than that all good.

The equipment in the kitchen, appliances and space in the kitchen diner. Felt spacious but cosy at the same time.

The location meant had to use the car to get anywhere. No pubs, shop to walk to. Narrow lanes were flooded during our stay. But despite the weather the location was too remote

Nice, pleasant place.

Vacate time too early. 9am is too early. 10 am would be better.
