"Fabulous cottage, great views in a quiet area"

10.0

Yew Tree Cottage is a lovely holiday home with great views from the terrace in a beautiful and quiet area close to Scarborough We loved every minute of our stay. There's lots of space (two bedrooms), super comfy beds (haven't slept that well in ages!) and a well equipped kitchen. The hosts were very nice and welcoming and even checked in on us after our first night to make sure we have everything we needed. The cottage is situated right next to the farm. So you might be greeted by horses when you enjoy your morning coffee on the terrace. Easy access to lots of places to visit. I can recommend visiting Rievaulx Abbey (close to Helmsley) and some of the other smaller villages on the route. We didn't use public transport, but there is a bus stop right on the main road that gets you to Scarborough quickly.

Absolutely nothing! Just that we only got to stay for three nights ;-)

Superb location, a beautiful cottage and an easy walk to two friendly pubs with good food and a well stocked Spar for additional supplies. Loved sitting out the back enjoying the horses, swifts and castle:)

"Lovely location; property would benefit from some TLC."

7.0

The cottage is in a beautiful location. Seeing the horses outside in the morning is lovely and really peaceful. It was really easy to get to the coast: Scarborough is very close, and then Filey, Whitby, Flamborough and Sandsend are only slightly further. The village is very pretty and the local pub serves lovely food and has a nice beer garden. The downstairs bathroom is newly renovated and very modern. It was also really clean. The hosts were very responsive. I got in touch on the day that we arrived regarding some issues with cleanliness and got a really quick response, which was appreciated. Parking is easy at the property. The outside space is a real plus, and you could dine outside easily if the weather was good.

The property wasn’t overly clean. There were toothpaste marks and a toothbrush ring on the sink, crumbs in the travel cot and sticky marks on the highchair. The problems were compounded by the fact that there were no cleaning products at all in the house. That said, the host quickly rectified this by bringing washing up liquid, dettol wipes and a cleaning spray. The property seemed to need some general TLC. There were stains of the sofa protectors and a make up hand print(?) above the master bed. It seemed to need a deep clean and perhaps a lick of paint in some areas. The provision wasn’t overly generous. The only bin bag provided was the one in the bin (for 4 days and a family with a baby). There were no cleaning products (as mentioned) and no toiletries or products to use in the washing machine. I understand that is at the host’s discretion but, aside from products for the washing machine, the others are surely provided to keep the property clean. The travel cot wasn’t built on arrival. In the 9 months since our baby was born, we’ve been on 6 UK breaks and 1 trip abroad. We haven’t faced these issues elsewhere. We stayed in another cottage in the area a few days earlier which was a cheaper stay (despite being over a weekend) but where coffee/milk/cleaning products/toiletries were provided and the travel cot was built after the host asked me which room I’d like it in. I do think it’s worth considering these “finishing touches” moving forward as it’s a beautiful spot and could be a fab property but doesn’t seem value for money when compared to other places nearby as it stands.
