Fujinoma Machiya House

We enjoyed our stay at this house. We are a family of 6 and it fit us all comfortably. Enjoyed the heated floor downstairs and the large table.

A beautiful machiya. Plenty of space for 6 people to coexist whether together to socialize or doing their own thing. Having 2 bathrooms is key! The heated floors on the first floor were great to come home to after walking all day. And the inner garden was a nice little retreat.

The lights in the bathrooms were kind of dim so it was a little hard to see if you were doing anything in the mirror. Also, not enough towel racks and/or hooks for the number of people the house can accommodate.

The staff upon check-in was friendly and very helpful. Free luggage delivery to where we were staying and allowed us to leave our bags upon check-out so we could explore Kyoto more. The house itself was clean and tidy. The house was traditional, but modern, which made it a wonderful experience.

Some sliding doors were sluggish and hard to open at times. Western bed, creaky with movement.

It’s a cute property, nice location close enough but quiet

The zen garden has a strange smell, which is not very inviting

Very modern but traditionally Japanese. Western style beds for us older folks and futons for the younger adults. Well equipped kitchen although all the close by restaurants were excellent

The living/dining/kitchen was a bit cramped for 6 adults
