Kyo no oozora KIHANA

The rooms and bathroom were extremely nice, we loved the style of the house. The heated floors in the living room and bathroom were a wonderful touch after coming in from a cold day.

The house is off of a busy main road, so you could hear traffic because of the thin walls. Whilst this place is good for a group stay, we couldn’t really use the living room on the bottom floor due to needing to store our luggage.

The pictures represent the booking honestly - it is an artfully renovated traditional house with so much character and thought put into it. Very clean, modern and well-maintained, and hosts responded right away regarding futon bedding for the tatami room and all other communication. Such a good value and memorable stay in a great area of Kyoto.

awkward to move around, no comfortable place to sit, sharp edges everywhere road noise at night nowhere to hang towels, shower head needs replacing unnecessary office stop to be told the code on the door

This was one of the best places we stayed in our Japan trip. The house is located right in the heart of the Gion area so is a short walk to multiple amazing bars and restaurants and is about a 7 minute walk to the nearest luggage transfer office too. When we met the hosts to check in they gave us a map which highlighted some of their favourite places as well as providing a guide for getting to some of the many sights of Kyoto. As for the property - it's absolutely stunning inside, blending classic Japanese interior with modern styles. There was building works going on next door but fortunately they were limited to starting at about 8:30/9 am so it didn't impact our stay that much.
