"Functional accommodation in old part of Whitby"

7.0

Its central location in Whitby was excellent. The agents managing the property were really kind and helpful. Parking permits were available which was really helpful.

The pictures gave a sense that this was a quaint cottage in the old town. I would say if you are wanting that then this is not the place. It is functional, definitely tired. The bottom of the freezer was dirty to the point I decided not to use it. Fridge needed a good clean. The photos led me to believe there was a fireplace for open fire. This is not the case, the wood is for decorative effect the fire is a gas one. There are two staircases one very steep so not ideal if you have mobility issues. Likewise two of the bathrooms have baths with large surrounds so difficult to manage if mobility problems - we just used the shower in the room that has en-suite. Parking is a challenge but we were expecting that as agents were clear about it. It would be helpful to have information about bins and recycling.

"Would happily stay again"

8.0

Lovely house, cannot compliment enough. Beautifully decorated, with subtle and tasteful Christmas decorations in the front room for our New Years stay. In a lovely location - far back from the main street so it's really peaceful and quite but easily walkable to all amenities if you are mostly able-bodied (being an old seaside town, there are hills and cobbles) The cottage is so peaceful and we heard no noise from outside at night. Parking outside the house is a bit of a careful squeeze but we were able to get an estate car in there. Cottage has underfloor heating - very welcome after you come in from a winter hike. Beds really comfy and well dressed but some quilt covers in need of replacement as very threadbare to being on the point of ripping. Choice of baths or a shower as long as the person(s) staying in the bedroom with the en-suite is happy to let others use the shower in that bathroom. Thank you for the provision of tea, coffee, sugar, milk, condiments and new cleaning materials like j-cloths etc. Really appreciated. Also, hot water bottles are a LOVELY touch. Steep stairs - expected as this is an old house not built with accessibility in mind. No sign of Steve the seagull but maybe next time???

Mould on window panes. I know this is a seaside house but as a rental this needs to be kept on top of. We cleaned it off ourselves as one of our party has asthma. Recommend you bring your own cleaning bleach if you have the same condition. Instructions for the TV and the fact there was internet channels would have been really useful. The teenagers managed to figure out that they existed but I imagine for non-tech folks, only having a limited number of ariel channels would be annoying.

"Perfect stay in a perfect house which felt like a home."

9.0

Perfect location, easy to get to from the Train/Bus Station. Close to all amenities, with Bothams, shops and places to eat and drink nearby on Silver Street and Skinner Street, with the rest of Whitby all just a short walk away.

The smoke/carbon monoxide alarm was beeping on arrival, it needed the batteries changing. Handily there were spare batteries in a drawer in the kitchen so it was an easy fix.

A beautiful clean 3 storey cottage with underfloor heating. Private parking & very central. Well equipped, cosy & warm, beautiful bathrooms & comfy beds. Well presented

Awkward & steep stairs to upper floor.

"Nice but could be much better, needs a good clean."

6.0

It’s a lovely quirky building set within the heart of Whitby, no more than a 5 minute walk from anywhere. The building has character that comes with age.

The stone floor should be beautiful, however it’s not seen a mop in a few years by the looks. The en-suite has mould in the grout, clean it!!

"Really enjoyable stay in this charming property"

9.0

The property has lots of charm and character and a really cosy feel. The underfloor heating makes the house very comfortable and the downstairs flooring is easy to keep clean if bringing a dog. The location is convenient and the parking space on the drive is a bonus. The house feels very spacious and there is a wonderful view of the sea from the top bedroom. There is one ensuite shower which is excellent although the bathroom door doesn't fully close so only one person in our group showered during their stay! There are also two additional bathrooms with a bathtub which is generous for a 3 bedroom house. The washing machine, dryer and other appliances all worked well. We enjoyed our 2 night stay here and would love to come again.

The bathrooms don't have locks. The ensuite bathroom has a sliding door which doesn't close fully, and the door on the main bathroom tends to spring open whenever anyone walks past! The main bathroom would benefit from a wall fitted shower attachment over the bathtub, shower curtain and window blind. Next time we will bring additional hair dryers. There are very steep steps up to the top bedroom (twin beds) which could easily result in a fall if used by young children or elderly people. This was not a problem for us as the bedroom was used by teenagers; in fact the quirkiness of the staircase added to the fun, but it is something to consider for other family groupings. Due to the lack of privacy in bathrooms we would only bring immediate family with us, not grandparents or friends!

After the year I've had of been in and out of hospital after having a lobectomy through cancer and spending last Christmas in hospital, this was the ideal way to spend this Christmas away from city life and chill out, I even cooked the Christmas dinner! Like me the cottage is quite quirky inside and I loved it. It is also in an ideal location to get out and about and explore Whitby.

Nothing to dislike!
