"Good location"

6.0

Location is the best thing about this cottage. Kitchen is well Equipped and the bedrooms are nice .WiFi was good .

It’s very cold . The heating isn’t sufficient for the cottage . There is a fire with no instructions on how to use or light . There was food debris on the stairs carpets and black paint . The front door needs a draft exclusion on the bottom as there is a big gap . The place just needs a bit of TLC to get the scores up . Lots of noise from people walking down the alley way . And noise from the pubs .

The upstairs lovely and warm lovely white fresh clean bedding and towels

Where to start, carpets were a little stained/ marked in quite a few places upstairs could really do with a good clean blinds etc, rubbish was left in top bathroom, toothpick left in drawer in 1st bedroom, shower trap filthy, shower head could do with a smaller head and it might work a bit better, living room absolutely freezing wouldn't warm up again in need of a deep clean sofas really hard and uncomfortable, hoover, mop bucket sweeping brush on show a curtain across that space along with one at the bottom of the stairs and by the door as you come in may help, the main door hard to open and close I even apologised to a neighbour incase i was making too much noise slamming the door, i had to clean cutlery before I could use any and only one cup, ended up buying some all in all it needs a really good clean not impressed especially for how much I paid, no instructions for the log fire or if it even worked

"Fine for our needs"

6.0

We were booked on a trip from the harbour so the location was ideal.

The cottage is in an alley between two pubs and the alley is used as a toilet. Children played knock and run until the early hours. There was a large number of flies in the kitchen which was off putting

"Health Hazard......AVOID"

1.0

The beds were comfy, that's it!

This place is a health hazard. Dirty, unsafe, filthy. As soon as we walked in you were met by a load of clutter stuffed under the stairs. The floors were filthy, obviously hadn't been hoovered since the last guests left, at least! Oven, grill, pans, microwave disgusting and were not safe to use. Couldn't make a cup of tea because the kettle was brown inside. Sofas were that dilapidated the wooden arms stuck out of the material, causing multiple cracked elbows!!! Glasses had to be washed before use. Didn't even use the crockery or the utensils because they were stained and still dirty with leftover food still attached. The parking was a no go, so this cost an additional £12 per night, and added to the fact we couldn't use the kitchen to prepare any food or drink so we had to eat out, even if we just wanted a cuppa, this added more expense to our trip that we had not considered. There's mould in one bathroom, left over toiletries in the shower from previous guests, broken accessories, stained carpets, oh and a paper wrapper in a bedroom that contained what I can only imagine is a previous guests bodily fluid!! Bannisters with ground in dirt, bedroom furniture either broken, stained, damaged or covered in food splatters. A log burner which looks like an accident waiting to happen!!! Two bags of again previous guests bathroom rubbish just thrown and dumped in the under stairs. Hoover was left switched on and plugged in. All in all an absolute nightmare. Dangerous, dirty, dilapidated and a definite waste of money!!!! Do yourselves a favour and book somewhere else!

"Quirky, cosy, comfy"

9.0

The property was lovely, quirky, cosy, clean & comfortable. Its in a BRILLIANT location, centre of Whitby. We had all we needed, plenty of cutlery & crockery. I was really impressed with the amount of plug sockets in our (top floor) bedroom. I was also impressed with the bed, so comfy, slept great!! The only thing none of us could quite work out was the kitchen sink tap, from a hot water point of view. There were buttons on the top of the tap, to increase/decrease the temperature, but it only seemed to run warm.

There wasn’t anything we didn’t like, although, after reading some of the previous reviews, i can understand why some people may have reacted negatively. Some of the bedroom furniture (top floor) was a bit scuffed & tired looking, but still perfectly serviceable. There were a couple of minor stains on the top floor bedroom carpet, apart from that, the carpet looked relatively new & clean. There were some scuff marks on the staircase wall, which to be fair is unavoidable given the narrow, steep staircase. The front door & inner door were a bit stiff on opening & closing, but it was never a major issue, just took a little “robust” pushing/pulling.

Location was spot on. Quaint accommodation with everything needed for an enjoyable stay.

Parking wasn't at/near the property. Parked in a 'W zone' street with the provided scratchcard. Unfortunately the street turned into a 'H zone' further down which we hadn't realised until we got a parking ticket. We then didn't feel confident in where we could park so we paid for parking in a pay and display car park. Very expensive mistake 😕
