Dune Cottage

The location was great. Right in the centre of the older side of town. Perfectly placed for shops, bars, and restaurants..

When we arrived, the television did not work. I called all three telephone numbers and left messages on the answerphone. I called the nimbers at various times, I then text all of the numbers as well, and as of yet, I still have not had a reply (im home now!) As we settled in for the first night we soon realised that the electric fire only worked intermittently and were unable to put the heating on due to the thermostat control not working. Again, I called the numbers to no avail. The following day, we soon realised that there was no hot water. Luckily, we realised it had been turned off at the boiler and at least managed to get the hot water working for a shower. I again tried to call all three numbers, but no one answered or returned my call. I resorted to email and sent an email to the owners. At the time of writing this review, i still have not had a reply. (I do wonder what would have happened if we could not get into the cottage when we arrived!) The cottage is also poorly stocked, i.e., only one teaspoon, no frying pan, part of the cooker missing, and very few utensils. The lights do not work in the onsuite bathroom.. All in all, it was a very disappointing stay and is not value for money.

There we not a lot of utensils and cooking pans the ones insitu weee quite old and worn out , there was no milk on arrival as stated. The tea and coffee were very outdated. The TV sometimes worked and sometimes didn’t. Upon arrival the previous occupants rubbish had been left out side the front door smelling quite bad. Outside the front entrance there was cat and dog poo left lying around )appreciate it’s not the owners fault) but not very pleasant when you arrive to the property. Overall the soft furnishing were comfy.

Where to start ...the photos are very deceptive the cottage is dark had a funny smell and did not look like the pictures..it said there would be milk and bread etc ..no sign of any of it..the television is a nightmare to get working ..no blind in bathroom ..just has seen better days and needs some money spending wouldn't stay again or recommend

The location was very central and handy. There were some nice period features.

It was pretty dirty and grubby - cushions and throws had things stuck to them, the cooker was greasy, the fridge smelled, there were marks on walls, mirrors were covered in finger prints, large and obvious cobwebs, lots of long blonde hairs everywhere. The hob, washing machine and TV didn’t work. There were no towels when we arrived. There’s only one key for the property, even the letting agent doesn’t have another. The front door was very hard to open and really wasn’t secure. Smoke alarms had been removed. Door handles were hanging off and there were random nails sticking out of walls. There was a lot of the owner’s personal property in wardrobes, cupboards and drawers. There’s no bin in the kitchen area, it’s sat outside the front door. There was a chiminea right outside overflowing with cigarettes and packets.

Lovely cottage. Whitby is a wonderful place to visit and Perkins Cottage is in a perfect location.

Great for a couple. I would not advise for families with children due to very steep stairs and the washing machine not working.

We liked that it was in the old part of Whitby

The property was very shabby, nothing really worked ,the property was for 4 although we were 2 ,etc only 3 knives , they said there would be milk on arrival ,there wasn’t. The kitchen area was shabby doors not fitting the oven really old one ring broken ,we didn’t use it ,as not sure how safe to was. The sofas old and stained . The bath was really old with old fashioned bubble jets ,we didn’t use as though probably germ hazard and looked cracked .Towels old , no hand towels and no bath mat. The television didn’t work , the stove couldn’t be plugged in. One of the chairs outside was broken and dirty ,old leaves and newspaper under the table ,the pots were full of weeds and chimera full of cigarette buts , not pleasant to sit there.the next door area was lovely.

Great location in old town, very handy for shops and restaurants all within a few minutes walk. Property was full of character and very cosy.
