Mokulē'ia Beach Houses at Owen's Retreat

The location and view are sublime. Felt like escape to another world.

Peeling paint and rust were not expected given the price paid. But to be fair I am not familiar with Hawaii cost of living. It would be my pleasure to return again.

The beach is incredible and the only good thing about Owen's Retreat. We saw a turtle, snorkled in perfect water, and enjoyed the gorgeous sand. We also found tons of jagged broken glass in the shallow wave area. My kids made a game of finding it, so we left the island better than we found it. I paid more than $2100 for three nights in the yellow house, a real example of supply and demand imbalance on the North Shore. This place has polyester sheets, plastic plants, heavy odor of dryer sheets on the linens, a roaring freeway less than 10 feet from windows and an airport across the street. It was like a Motel 6 on the Interstate. Planes all day, traffic all night. There are house rules threatening additional costs if the sand is not cleaned up - but there is only a broken old straw boom (which did not sweep sand) or a 3' chinese broom that you have to lean way over to use. No floor mats or rugs to catch the sand. Hawaii is paradise, and maybe Owen's is the closest haoles can get.

The owners Dee Dee and Lance were very nice and Kind. There place was wonderful right on the beach, clean and nicely decorated. Also Bernadette did a great job giving us the keys and showing us around and her husband Reuben was very nice also. We will be back perfect Location!!! Thank-you again for a wonderful stay. Next time we’ll bring the whole family and stay in the bigger house.

Dirty, dated. Didn’t feel very safe. Didn’t understand why we have to strip beds and clean the house before check out. It is kind of ridiculous. We paid 1500 $ (aud) They also asked 100$ for deposit? Not sure why, there wasn’t much worth in the house worth 100$. We are staying in Waikiki for half of that and its 5* It is really bad value for money

The location was awesome, thought the owner said we cannot see the beach in the house(I booked beachfront two bedroom house), if I seat on the balcony or front door, or the livingroom, I could see the big wave out of the fence. It was awesome.

The manager(lady) let me bring all the towels and beddings on the washing machine at 10 am. I couldn’t get it, the check out time is 11am, why do I have to bring those even there’s an hour left? Also, I paid more than 1000 dollars for the night, there includes cleaning fee which cost me 300 dollars. I asked her why do I need to bring those out, then she said it’s the house rule, and she asked me whether I didn’t read the English written house rule. I felt this was rude, maybe she asked that to me because I am Asian. Moreover, I couldn’t find any rule that says the customer needs to bring out towels and beddings before they leave from the message the owner sent me. But still, I cleaned up the house before I leave, bring out towels and other stuffs on the washing machine, I swept the floor out with a broom.
