Cosy Cottage in the Countryside

The property is absolutely beautiful, very clean. Had everything we needed including toilet roll, kitchen roll, tea coffee and sugar available, even some shower supplies.

Peaceful and quiet. Good underfloor heating downstairs. Very comfortable main bed.

The surrounding roads (lanes) are in an absolutely atrocious state of repair! The house was in quite a poor state of cleanliness, with spiders webs in every room, lots of ants in the kitchen and utility room and beer bottle tops on the floor in the dining area. Rain water was dripping onto the inside of the living room and kitchen windowsills. There were a lot of light bulbs not working. Upstairs in the property was very cold, there does seem to be underfloor heating but there was no heat, especially in the en-suite, it was like a fridge, it does have a heated towel rail but again, not working. A larger TV would be good in such a large living room. The house and grounds really could do with some TLC, the garden is very overgrown with broken furniture and a gazebo on its back. The outside of the house really needs some painting done. Some of the cupboards in the utility and kitchen fall off when you open them.

Due to travelling a long distance, we over estimated our time of arrival. On phoning hosts met with "you are not due to arrive until...." so we went to the pub for a meal until we were told to go and where the keys were to get in. Meal in pub was awful.

Property is tired and dated. Vat is charged but no VAT receipt is offered with the necessary VAT details. I would like a property VAT receipt please.

Secluded and very quiet location, warm house with plenty of space and comfy bed. Great value for money

Generally a nice, quiet location - not too far from good food and shopping, plus centrally located for travel into Telford, Wolves or Bham. Rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable, shower in the en-suite is good. There is plenty of outdoor space and parking. Some repairs have been made since my previous stay. (Shower tray no longer leaking, internet connection now working.) It's cheaper than many others in the region, but this is reflected in the overall standard of the place.

The property is still in dire need of maintenance and a deep clean; as the house warmed up dozens of blow flies began to appear and there was a daily battle to get rid of them. The windows are filthy, and many of the catches are broken in some way. The main bathroom is out of order, the toilet in there was constantly filling on my arrival too, (I fixed this). Timber finishing is badly worn in places, and coming off by the front door. No gardening has been done for months. The pump located in the upstairs utility cupboard, (presume this is for the under floor heating) is groaning and knocking every few minutes, (it sounds a bit like a cross between a cat caught in a trap and a haunted house) is noisy and is loud enough to wake you up. The whole place basically needs a week of effort to clean and maintain it, then it could be really good. Out of the Hosts control, but worth noting: The local farmer used a nearby field for racing around on dirt bikes one evening, this is pretty noisy. As it stands, I guess the overall quality of the building is reflected in the price vs other similar places.
