Mulberry, A Luxury Two Bed Cottage in Painswick

The cottage itself is nice. Upstairs really nice, beds comfy and really quiet, ideal location.

Outside area looks really nice on photos yet deceiving, seating area had cushions out when we got there and it had been raining so they were wet through/dirty, unusable for the entirety of our stay. Lights and extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work, bear in mind these are downstairs so not ideal.. downstairs also smelt of dog when we arrived, upstairs was fine. No oil, milk or butter provided which I’d say are pretty essential for a cottage getaway. Also pictures show bubble bath and candles which weren’t available

Many things went wrong with this stay, unfortunately. The beds were very small. While technically double beds, they were too small for me and my husband to comfortably enjoy. The problem was further exasperated by the difficulties in setting the temperature. The boiler was quite difficult to adjust to a comfortable temperature, as it wasn’t very intuitive and seemed to be a bit “buggy”, which led to the apartment getting incredibly warm, even after carefully trying to find a balanced temperature, and even after opening the windows fully we were boiling during the night. We had to sleep in separate beds, since we were too hot to sleep together, along with the aforementioned problem with the beds being too small. This was a disappointment since this was me and my husband’s honeymoon and we would have liked to sleep together. For a “luxury” cottage we weren’t too impressed, especially with the fact that the toilet sat too far up from the ground. I couldn’t even reach the floor with my feet when I sat on it. The positioning of the toilet is something very basic that should not be done wrong. The faucet in the bathroom sink was very sensitive and easily went to full force with just a normal touch, and required significant hand precision to produce a stream that was not too strong. Apart from that, the shower didn’t have a built in rack for shampoo or body wash, and the solution to have a portable rack hanging on the towel hanger seemed quite clueless and not very well thought out, as it took up precious space from towels. The shower was quite worn down as well, with significant signs of wear. Also there were significant spots of mould/mildew in the ceiling. The TV was the worst experience we have ever had with a TV. It was incredibly slow and buggy, to the point that we simply gave up on trying to use it, especially with no good option to use any casting app from our own devices. Not a very luxurious experience.

Everything. It was lovely and cosy and the location is ideal.

Very cosy and comfortable. Nicely designed kitchen with all facilities.

Only bathroom downstairs so a bit tricky at night. Parking also little awkward so would advise parking in the street about 50m away. Not too much of an issue.
