"Comfortable and suitable for our family group in a good location"

8.0

Property all on one level with nice outlook and plenty of secure outdoor space

No user manual for guests on arrival and during stay despite requesting this. Lacking things like measuring jug and mixing bowl in kitchen.

"Perfect location and spacious house, but the interior needs redecorating"

7.0

Location was perfect and kitchen and living room was spacious

The interior could do with repainting as there's lots of scuff, marks, chipping paint throughout the house. It was also not homely. There were no decorations, painting, colour or warm atmosphere. It was too plain and clinical. And the bathrooms were lacking storage space and had no amenities. Also the floor boards are not fitted fully, they come up in areas. I also could get hold of the host before the holiday to ask some questions. I sent a couple of emails and tried calling. Thankfully I could get a hold of the cleaner whilst on holiday as the microwave didn't work. They kindly tried to help, but in the end bought us a cheap microwave to use.

"It was good, could be great and consider the risk from group accommodation alongside"

7.0

Sorry but I'm putting positive and negative comments mixed together - because that reflects our experience. The property was in a great location for visiting different  local attractions and it was easy to find. It was a real plus to have full length windows in the kitchen/dining/seating area because there was a view to hills, fields and grazing sheep. There was plenty of parking space. The accommodation was clean throughout. The beds were comfortable but the rooms themselves felt a bit more like dorms than welcoming bedrooms, though not a big issue since we were mostly elsewhere. The kitchen was suitably stocked except that the quantity of a lot of things was so restricted that, with 8 of us there, we were constantly having to wash cutlery or crockery by hand because there weren't many extra beyond what the family used for a single meal - even just half as much cutlery again would be good. There was not really a lot of workspace for 8 people but we managed. A couple of big jugs for table water would have been appreciated. We've been to places before advertised for 8 that didn't have enough seating for 8 but that wasn't the case here. Unfortunately though, some of the settee seating was quite uncomfortable. The heating was great throughout our stay.

There's one thing to be aware of that's really quite important. On the same site i.e. right beside the Coach House (CH), is the Manor House (MH), which is specially purposed for large group accommodation. (Somehow we missed a previous review that mentioned this). When we entered the CH, we found clothes hanging in a couple of the bedrooms, which was a bit of a shock. We rang the number we'd been provided to find out what was going on, to be told, long story short, that the girls hen party in the MH had obviously assumed that they were able to use the CH too. Apparently the code to unlock both properties was the same! We were then asked if we would be willing to spend the night in a local hotel at their expense while they sorted things out and cleaned the property. Plus we were informed that the hen party had a couple of mobile food trucks arriving which was clearly going to result in increased noise. Despite the obvious inconvenience compared to simply settling in the accommodation we'd booked, we agreed to do that and come back in the morning. When we did, and entered the code, we were taken aback to not be able to push down the handle to open the door - 3 of us tried. After more calls, we were told that it sometimes stuck and we should basically force it down (which we'd not done for the obvious reason that we hadn't wanted to risk breaking it). That worked and actually it was then ok for the rest of our stay. Overall? Great location and views from the property, comfortable beds, mixed comfort on the sofas, and adequate but limited kitchen facilities. The owners sorted out the problems we faced when arrived. Would we book there again? Wed love to BUT, to be honest, as a 3 generational family, only if we had an absolute guarantee that there would be no large group staying in the MH during our stay and sadly it may not be possible to get that.
