The check-in office is a little far from our room. In addition, the japanese curtains in the bedroom do not block out light well…

This was our second visit to Yoitsubaki Machiya House, and once again, we had a comfortable stay in a beautifully traditional Japanese setting. The location is convenient, with easy access to nearby temples and a supermarket. The staff were exceptionally polite, kind, and cooperative.

"Machiya Residence Inn is excellent to deal with, don’t hesitate!"

A real taste of traditional Japanese style. Well heated for winter. Flexible sleeping arrangements with 3 rooms available, futons can be moved around. Our group of 5 used the 2 rooms upstairs. Toilets on both levels.

"Restful, memorable, fabulous place."

Beautiful traditional house. Amazing bathroom. All bed types comfy. Air con really good. Laundry liquid provided, wash/dry cycle takes 4/5 hours. Check in process excellent, they keep and deliver bags for small fee, instruction manual for stuff in house on a QR code. 7/11 store few mins away on main road. Pizza Hut deliver - just sayin! Bus route nearby. Cheap enough to Uber to your location, and/or back. £6.00 for 4 to Uber to Fushima Inari shrine, save legs and time. Cost just £8.50 4 adults 4 cases and hand luggage to Kyoto station in a people carrier.

Bear in mind this is a traditional home, not purposely designed for travellers. Stairs are steep to carry heavy or large luggage - pack light! Small wardrobe but no drawers.

"Traditional Japanese house with room for 8"

Has traditional and modern rooms/beds. Has a washer/dryer. Gardens were beautiful. Air conditioning worked good. Bath room shower was nice.

Kitchen has no storage for food and very little space for food prep. Dining room chairs have no felt on their feet which makes stretching sound when moved. Both sinks didn’t drain. Toilet rooms didn’t have good ventilation and bad smell.
