Our host was wonderful - he collected our luggage from the local 7/11 and it was there when we arrived. He provided fresh bread and fruit, yoghurt and jam. Was very helpful with finding local sites. He was a complete gentleman. The location was nice and quiet. Traditional Japanese house and very comfortable.

We had a small kitchen where we could have breakfast, kindly provided by the host. The patio was very nice.

The host lives just behind a very thin glass wall. You can hear him and the other way around, so it doesn't feel very private. Owner was friendly though.

"Unique stay."

9.0

This is a very special and unique place. Not everyday you get to stay in a 150 year old rykokan. Ono is an attentive host who lives in the room next to the accommodation. Keep in mind you will all be sleeping on the floor in one room and you will need to go outside to find the toilet as with the kitchen/ dining area.

"Accommodations were okay at best, staff was very friendly and was able to speak some English."

8.0

The gentleman staying at the property was very nice, he gave us some free food for our stay. The sleeping area was pretty nice as well. There was also a garden with an open roof in the middle of the house which was pretty.

The bathroom and shower were small and in order to get to these facilities you had to use sliding doors which were very loud. Also the location wasn’t the best, it’s kind of tucked into the middle of a neighborhood at the end of a street.

Staying in a traditional house in Kyoto is truly thrilling. It extends your experience in the area to 24 hours. . Mr. Ono was incredibly attentive and helpful to us. He made sure we lacked nothing each day, even leaving umbrellas at the entrance when rain was forecasted.

I can't complain about anything, but being such an old house comes with inherent quirks. To use the bathroom, you have to exit the room, and if it's cold, it might be a bit uncomfortable for some.

"Loved our authentic Kyoto experience staying at Veada"

10.0

Our family (2 adults, 2 kids - aged 11 & 9) loved our experience of staying in a 150+ year old traditional Kyoto home/machiya (traditional Japanese wooden townhouse). Walking distance from Gion sites and Kiyomizu-dera. We had a large bedroom with traditional tatami floor and comfortable futon bedding, a dining/kitchenette room, bathroom, and a small traditional Japanese garden. It was great to have a more authentic experience than the standard hotels, especially for our children. Clean and comfortable stay!
