The charm of this traditional Japanese townhouse is unmatched! Every detail is exquisite and learning the history from the host was amazing. All bath amenities were top of the line. The best part was the host spent much time helping us build an itinerary for our stay in Kyoto. Shin truly went above and beyond, we will most certainly stay here again on our next visit to Japan!

Please don’t make the same mistake we did and only stay here for one night. My husband and I are celebrating our honeymoon and really wanted to experience a traditional Japanese inn before leaving. After much research, we found Kyonoyado Gekkoan and booked immediately based on the raving reviews and photos. However, even with that, nothing could’ve prepared us for our experience here. This was the most unforgettable stay. From the communication before our arrival to the thoughtful check-in, where we learned more about the property, Kyoto, and nearby recommendations, Shohei and the team made us feel right at home — they even had a small present for our honeymoon. We had just arrived and were already thinking of when we could come back. What makes this place so special is the attention to detail and the history behind it. The house is over 100 years old, and you can feel that sense of history in every corner. The rooms are beautifully decorated with local artwork that reflects the culture and craftsmanship of Kyoto. There’s a real sense that every piece was chosen with care. Another thing that really sets Kyonoyado Gekkoan apart is that it’s been certified for good sleep — which isn’t an easy certification to get. The beds, the atmosphere, and the quiet surroundings make it one of the most restful nights of sleep we’ve ever had. The garden is absolutely beautiful — peaceful and perfectly maintained. Sitting there in the morning or evening with a cup of tea was one of the most relaxing moments of our trip. And the private onsen? Incredible. Soaking in the warm water after a long day of traveling/exploring Kyoto was pure bliss. I’m writing this on our way out of Kyoto, hoping it reaches others who might be considering a stay here. If you’re thinking of booking just one night — stay longer. They’ve created something truly special here, and the warmth and care from the staff make it even better. We will see each other again! We enjoyed the breakfast very much. Very interesting and creative use of ingredients. Something different and interesting. Love that it is in a quiet neighborhood.

The General Manager Shin was an extremely friendly host, he gave us the run down of the culture in Kyoto and was very knowledgeable. The property itself is beautiful and had so many amenities! I will definitely return when the time comes!
