"A comfortable and unique stay in an ancient town with AMAZING views!"

10.0

It was a beautiful and unique property at the top of a mountain with amazing views! The bed was incredibly comfortable and the balcony off the bedroom was stunning! We looked forward to having our breakfast there every morning. The area was very quiet and it was fun to explore and walk around the little alleys. A car is definitely needed though to get back down to the river area as well as the different wineries. There is also a little café, right around the corner, otherwise the top of the mountain is very quiet.

At first, we had a little trouble finding the property. The owner was very easy to contact though and helped us with where to park and locating the home. Because you need to bring your luggage up some stairs and down some alleys, it is necessary to pack light or bring someone strong with you. 😄 The stairs inside are also very steep to the bedrooms. Of course we love and understand the uniqueness of old homes, but just thought we would mention it in case stairs are difficulty for you.

The house was clean and beautiful and the bedrooms were nice! Located in a very nice little village.

I did not find a frying pan.

"a trip within a trip, a real bonus"

8.0

The apartment is in a tiny village near the top of the mountain overlooking Pinao. Take the road past the nearby cafe leading out of the village to enjoy a great sundowner among the olive trees, with a super view over Pinao and the surrounding valleys. For us this was all a real bonus, and very much worth the ten euros charged by the taxi to take us there.

According to people in the nearby cafe, the water from the tap is not safe to drink.

"Authentic Douro Valley village experience in quaint old house."

5.0

This is a great house if you are wanting an authentic experience of village life in the Douro Valley but it is isolated so not recommended for a solo traveller, or for travellers without a car or Portuguese language skills. It was difficult to locate the house once the taxi dropped me off and the path is a bit steep. Google maps indicates Pinhao is a 30 minute walk but this is very inhospitable country, and there are unrestrained savage dogs that you have to get past in order to get to Pinhao. Selma was very helpful to arrange a taxi for me when needed.

The bathroom had mould and a broken shower head.

"just what we needed for a short stay to experience a long Pinhao river cruise"

8.0

it was a nice residence with two bedrooms, a lovely bathroom and kitchen. It was very well equipped. it had a lovely Balcony upstairs with an amazing view, plus a table and chairs to sit out and appreciate it

we arrived on motorbike and took the wrong track, ie a cobblestone path and not the road. it was very scary with a gradient of 1:8 and some twists and turns. I am so glad there wasn’t anything coming the opposite way. we arrived at the top nervous and frazzled and then could not easily find the accom. once we did we appreciated it. so to/from Pinhao it’s 6km by sealed rd vs 4 km up a VERY steep path. it’s not the kind of place that would be easy to walk back to from Pinhao. we were only looking for one nights accom and Pinhao too expensive. but you would need to factor in taxis if arriving by foot. the village is better suited to those walking the trail or interested in hiking.
