The apartment’s position and view were excellent! The balcony on the roof top was stunning

We loved this place. The two stand out things were the view and the terrace on the roof. The other great feature is that there were insect screens on both French doors and the bathroom window. This meant we could sleep with fresh air and have a better sense of atmosphere during the day, rather than being shut in with the AC. The only interior window with a view was the bathroom; this looked out over the old city. The two French doors look out onto (mostly) pedestrian streets. Because of street noise, we slept with the doors shut, but the bathroom window open. I know some other reviewers said it was loud, but we didn't find it to be too bad. That said, we were happy to have brought a white noise machine. The host did all the arrangements by text, so we never met him. He was super helpful, checked in on us, and was very quick to respond. We loved the location. It was only a 1 minute walk to parking (30 euro a day though!) yet in a limited traffic zone, near a big piazza and the stairs down to the old city. The ZTL starts just after the parking garage, so don 't miss the turn into it.

There are two things that others may want to be aware of; neither were really a problem for us though. If you have mobility or balance issues, note that there are a lot of stairs. There are the stairs from the street, which are regular stone stairs, but the stairs up to the roof terrace are extremely steep and very small (on the ladder spectrum, I'd say). The other thing is that the kitchen is basic. There isn't a freezer and you can't buy ice anywhere, so we were a bit stumped about how to pack out the cold items we bought. The cooktop is induction, which, if it wasn't on high, seemed to fluctuate temperatures rapidly. It was fine for boiling water, but I wouldn't plan on much cooking.

Beautiful modern design and attention to detail. Great bathroom with incredible view over the Sassi, very comfortable bed with extra pillows and great memory foam mattress. Stunning rooftop deck and well appointed kitchen for snacks and coffee in the morning. We loved all the windows, balcony and light in the room. This accommodation is very attractive overall. Paid parking was expensive, but there is also free street parking which is a little less convenient.

Noisy street below. Local workers were hanging out at night below the apartment talking loudly, laughing, etc. until after midnight. So we weren’t able to sleep until they left, even with the windows closed.

The property is well located in the historical district. It has a marvellous roof top terrasse overlooking the Sassi.

Gerardo was a very helpful & considerate host. He definitely went the extra mile. We would highly recommend Antica Pepice to everyone. Roomy & bright accomodation. Very comfortable bed & pillows. The rooftop terrace was excellent for Breakfast & again for our Aperol Sprtiz at sundown. What a perfect location, so close to everything Matera :)

Very stylishly, thoughtfully and smartly designed, well renovated apartment smack dab in the middle of Matera. Design is modern, yet blends easily with the ancient city. With a bathroom and especially rooftop view to die for. Paid parking at 3 minutes walking from the apartment is ideal in this ancient town. Host Gerardo was very easy to reach and align with on check-in, the place has all amenities you need for a few days and was though. It smelled great, was squeaky clean and had a very good bed (not always the case in Italy..). One of the best apartments we as frequent travelers stayed at.

If a flickering light is the worst thing in an apartment, you’re doing a good job.

The location is perfect! In the center of everything. Easy walk from this property to either end of Matera or into the Sassi. The view is spectacular! Roof top patio with 180 degree view of the Sassi and Cathedral.
