Tabino Shiori - Vacation STAY 83814

Our hosts were amazing. Apple pie to welcome us and lots of information to help us plan our stay. The rooms are warm and cozy and the hot shower was great. A nice quiet location but so close to everything meant we walked everywhere. Shared a wonderful meal out with our hosts on our last night at one of their favorite local restaurants. Clean and spacious. Could be great if one desires quirkiness.

Steep and narrow stairs that impede movability. One might trip and injure ankles and toes. Bathroom is downstairs through the store’s cafè space and felt weird. Front door needs to be more secure. I felt like we were invading the owner’s space especially we had to vacate the property by 10am before cafè’s opening hour.

The Host was fantastic and the meal she prepared for us was our favourite!! Clean and spacious.

Good location in a great town with very charming owners. The set up is a bit weird, as they run a cafe from the bottom floor, but it was closed when we were there. Not sure if they close it when the have guests. The rooms were great, japanese style with tatami mats and the bottom floor was super cozy for a winter stay with a fire place and coach and a nice garden right outside. The owners also (for a fee) set up a great shabu shabu dinner for us at the apartment which my son still says was his favorite meal of the trip. If not the best meal, it definitely was one of the nest experiences. The bathroom was also really nice and comfortable.

Not much to dislike. I only wonder if the cafe had been open, how would we have showered in the morning, since we'd have to walk through the cafe to get to the shower.

I highly recommend Tabino Shiori when you are visiting Takayama. We stayed here during the autumn festival in Takayama. The location is fantastic, super close to the shrine and all the festival events and markets. It is in the middle of all the traditional houses and streets and the house itself is super beautiful as well. The hosts are truly amazing people. They are so friendly and welcoming. We felt right at home. They also provided the option to have a traditional diner upon arrival the first day. We did this and have no regrets. It was delicious and a fun experience. The house was also very clean, there was a small kitchen and a very nice modern bathroom. I will definitely stay here again!
