HAKU 100-year-old Quaint Japanese Style Villa

Impressive, carefully and tastefully restored house at the edge of town. Very comfy futons, very nice surroundings.

This little cottage is an architectural masterpiece. Well designed, well made and well finished. The best part in our view in this respect is that the roof supporting beam is made from one tree. The terrace is also nicely made from old beams and offers a nice view on the valley. Kitchen facilities, bathroom and wash and dry appliances are all top notch. Sleeping is on the top floor and provides ample space for the given capacity of 5 persons. Communication with the property manager was excellent. Upon arrival the mail ceiling lamp was on guiding us easily towards Haku. We could easily have stayed here for a week had time so permitted.

Like mentioned in other reviews, the futons are on the thin side and a lack of tatami made us wake up with a soar back. It may be on order of the architect to keep the furniture simple, but I simply do not see how 5 people can stay in Haku for more than one night. Sure, there are 2 chairs and 3 stools, but the tiny dinner table is for max 2 persons. Haku is well suited for 2 to max. 3 adults. Or 2 adults and two small children. Unless a large dinner table with 5 proper chairs have replaced the mini table.

The traditional farmhouse is situated on a hill top overlooking the rice paddies. It was an absolutely unique and surreal experience staying this remodeled farmhouse. The farmhouse is spotless and comes with a fully equipped kitchen so you can cook your meals and enjoy the house at the same time. The neighbour was tranquil with friendly neighbours. The host, Junko, was responsive to our enquiries.

It would be nice if they can add some tatami in the sleeping area, the futon was a bit thin for my poor old back. I travelled by car so there was no trouble finding the place. It would be difficult to access the place if you are travelling by train.

Excellent views and a wonderful and cosy interior and atmosphere. The owner was very helpful and responsive to messages.

Through no fault of the owner, the public transport options were a bit limited. Just bring your walking shoes!

Beautiful place! Clean, comfortable, well equipped. Charming historic building but with clean and comfortable modern amenities and appliances. Everything worked really well. Very thoughtful details throughout, for example a fully stocked cutlery drawer, bottles of water, tea an coffee, even a cute little snack, plenty of soft fluffy towels, really nice quality amenities and appliances, comfy beanbags, veryyyyyy comfy futon beds, pillows and quilts (had the best sleep!), hotel-like toiletries, vacuum, ironing board, excellent washing machine and dryer. Very nice spacious shower and bath room. The place was also very clean. Definitely recommend!

Only issue is if you’re very very tall you might have to duck down a few times as some of the historic wooden beams are a bit low.
