"Good 2 night stay but wouldn’t stay for any longer."

6.0

Shower wasn’t the best and the door kept falling off. There was dog hair all over. The cooker hasn’t got a very good extraction system. It was a decent stay as 2 nights for £300 this time of year is not bad at all. The location is amazing being right in the heart of Ambleside.

Stayed from 6th to 8th September. My sisters and I stayed in this quaint cottage as part of one of my sister's 60th birthday. Very clear information with regards to our arrival. The cottage is in the heart of Ambleside and was spacious, clean and very comfortably furnished. We didn't use the well equipped kitchen as there are so many lovely places to eat in Ambleside. The bedrooms were also comfortable and we all slept well. Only one small critique in the small bedroom a mirror would have been nice. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it.

Good location

Kitchen had basic utensils and was tired looking. Had no toilet roll when we arrived and had an issue with the hob. Reported both early the next morning and we were assured someone would come to sort out both during the day. Got back at 5pm after being out all day and no one had been. Had to ring before someone eventually came out.

"Great location, nice cottage, just lacking in the finer details which could be easily fixed and would bring it up to pa"

Location

Water stained ceilings, dust on some surfaces, laminate flooring lifting in kitchen and lounge which we tripped over a few times, slightly unkempt outside courtyard, dirty garden furniture

"Disappointing"

5.0

The location - excellent for exploring the Lake District! Also the beds were very comfy. This is very subjective of course, but we found the beds to be very comfy and we had no trouble at all sleeping.

No working TV for the full duration of our stay. We contacted the owner on the first day we arrived to explain the TV was broken. They came and confirmed it was what we’d said (broken) the next day, then said they’d replace it after we’d left. Appreciate there are no electrical shops in Ambleside, but there’s other places close by like Windermere, Bowness, Keswick, Kendal, etc that sell them (Argos, Curry’s, etc) which are only 15-20 minutes away, so If it was my guesthouse property I’d have just gone and bought one on the same day to keep my guests happy. It’s nice to be able to sit back and watch a movie or a TV show in the evening after exploring the Lake District all day, so this was really disappointing having no TV to watch as a family in the evenings. Also the flooring in the cottage is a health hazard! Luckily we’re quite young so it wasn’t a major issue for us (just a tad irritating catching your foot on it every time you walk in the kitchen), but it would be quite dangerous for elderly people. Whoever installed the flooring didn’t know what they were doing and they haven’t allowed for expansion in the summer months. This has resulted in a “concertina effect” of the flooring with triangular, trip-hazard “humps” near the kitchen entrance and inside the kitchen area as well. When you install this type of flooring you’re meant to leave a gap all the way round on all sides. I can see someone elderly landing flat on their face at some point if this isn’t rectified, and will result in the owners being sued. Whoever installed the flooring probably installed the lop-sided curtain pole for the living room…. Closer to diagonal than horizontal! Also we couldn’t find an ironing board anywhere in the cottage, and the window-lock in the kitchen (which another reviewer complained about in Booking.com about a month ago) is still broken so the property is still not fully secure. Overall a disappointing stay, with the TV situation being the biggest annoyance.
