The Red Nest - Lake Tekapo

Fantastic cabin, which has everything you need for your stay at Lake Tekapo. Would definitely stay again. Beds (queen + single) were comfortable, fully stocked kitchen including microwave in cupboard. Very quiet location.

Very clean, good kitchen, has a washing machine, few minutes drive to town

Smaller than expected. It’s almost a tiny home. The second bedroom would only really be suitable for a child. Neither bedroom / anywhere in the house has any storage/cupboards. Difficult to put luggage anywhere. The second bedroom has no floor space at all. The washing machine inside the bathroom backs into the room, and the room is used for storage so the vacuum, and clothes line are kept out in the open in the available corner of the room. The only power point is between the single bed and the wall so to get to it you need to move the bed out a bit which results in no room at all to walk in the room. It’s basically a cupboard with a single bed in it. The TV is not compatible with screen sharing or mirroring. There’s only free to air TV for which the remote doesn’t work properly. This has been mentioned by other reviews but I guess not fixed. Either the batteries are dead or the remote is broken. So TV wasn’t usable during our stay. Kitchen was good except there were only two glasses. There was also no foil for the oven so difficult to use it and keep it clean. There is also only one tray for the oven. For the bins outside, there is a small open container for glass items. The weather was very bad when we were there and the wind was picking up the glass bottles and throwing them around, as well as throwing the container around. We had to clean this up but also it’s a HUGE hazard. For us, the price was too high compared to accommodation around the rest of the South Island.

It was quite cute and although small had a well appointed kitchen and heat pump worked well.

There is no place to put luggage or any storage. The duvet did not fit the bed and was too short, and only an old woollen blanket - which was the saving grace. There was no additional bedding. For the money I thought it was cute, but overpriced.

Like an oven on arrival. Complications with cooler which needed to be reset by staff - instructions would be helpful. Location a bit remote.

Peaceful yet still good for access to lake Tekapo. The property had everything we needed and more......
