The Red Nest - Lake Tekapo

The house is well located, close to all the key attractions. The place is comfortable, quiet and is great for stargazing.

WiFi is not really working during our stay. Signal is weak the whole time. If you are using this place during summer time, remember to close up the curtain, otherwise it’s like a sauna room ;)

Staff at the Tekapo visitor Centre were kind and helpful, as was Chris, a lovely man who drove me up to the property. His boss, Annie, runs a bike hire company and was rude and abrupt.

Impossible to access without a car. It’s a half hour uphill walk (or a slightly shorter route through the woods), neither of which are feasible if you have luggage. Tekapo has no taxis, no local buses and no car rental! So, if you’re arriving on a bus from Christchurch as I did, don’t even think about this accommodation! Avoid it also if you don’t like flying insects!
