Bathroom downstairs. Not told about the back entrance until the day before. Asked to strip the beds and leave bedding in a black bag for the cleaners.

"Decent cottage to rest your head"

7.0

Self-contained cottage with character in a location with good access to major attractions and excellent walks. Comfortable bed and quiet for a good nights sleep. Plenty of storage upstairs. Nice sized garden and patio for warm summer evenings. This lovely cottage is a great place to stay but was let down by lack of cleanliness, lottery parking and a lack of a local knowledge welcome pack. We had researched our stay so knew where and what to visit but a properly put together welcome pack would be useful to help showcase the property and location. Also whoever is looking after the property for the kind owners has let them down with the cleanliness and care of such a lovely cottage. These are fixable and would improve the rating of this property.

Needed a thorough clean - - thick cobwebs in the kitchen - dirty hob - the oven was literally smoking when switched on! - stairs had dust, dirt and long dark hair on the carpet and dirt by the front door in the fraught excluder Small fridge with freezer which needed to be defrosted and cleaned plus it looked like it was missing shelves and did not keep cold. Shower cubicle is about 40cms to enter and exit and required caution so one didn’t slip/trip. No storage in the bathroom. Bed linen was dirty and had to be washed on arrival Parking - needed to time arrival to get a space and difficult to unload across a busy road No welcome pack or visitors book

"Disappointing!"

5.0

The living room was alright.

The floors were filthy. To the point, our feet were black with dirt! Burnt cheese was left at the base of the oven/grill tray, resulting in smoking the place out when using the appliance. There was no drainer to dry pots in the kitchen. It was very cold...even in a warm June. The shower was tiny. We had to search all the drawers and cupboards for some sort of welcome pack.... we found it, shoved in a drawer with other random things. I wouldn't call it a "welcome pack" as it was just a piece of paper. It would have been better in a folder with the leaflets, and with the WiFi code stated. As this was another thing we had to find. The Internet was unreliable and kept cutting off. The information online states there is a children's high chair. This wasn't the case. What was really disappointing was when I called the owner of the property and left a voice message regarding the high chair situation. They called back and said they were on holiday. The signal was terrible, and the call got disconnected after 20 seconds. You'd expect a phone call back or a text message with either a solution or an apology. There was neither, resulting in struggling to feed a 18 month old for two nights/three days. We had to move one of the settees to use the fold out dining table and had to use fold out garden chairs as dining chairs. Very uncomfortable. Especially for our small children. It would have been nice to use the outdoor space. However, the garden was too overgrown.

"Good quality accommodation."

8.0

Spacious, very well decorated, this is a good quality modernisation of an old cottage. Comfortable beds. Good TV. Bus stop opposite to Newcastle.

Only minor points: not easy to use the dining table as sofas leave little space for it. Could do with a second bedside table in main bedroom and a freestanding unit in bathroom for toiletries. Stove top coffee maker- we don't use pods - was fine for 2 but no more. No drainer by sink. Instructions to find cottage didn't explain the rear access alley is right at start of the road.

"Gorgeous little cottage"

10.0

Quaint little cottage in the lovely village of Stocksfield. Location is great for exploring Northumberland or, as in our case, visiting friends.

The doormat at the backdoor was wet from the rain, so were a little worried about our wet feet messing up the lovely kitchen floor.
