Hope Cottage, Great Longstone

A cosy little cottage in a lovely village just north of Bakewell. We had gone for a walking break and this was ideally located. We were able to access many circular walks directly from the cottage. In fact we didn’t use the car the whole time we were there. Two pubs, which both offered food were walking distance and both made dogs welcome. When we arrived we were greeted with a generous quality welcome pack which was most welcome after our long drive. The cottage had everything we needed for our stay and will definitely book again. We almost don’t want too many people knowing about this little gem.

It didn’t spoil our stay at all but we would have preferred a double bed in the larger of the two bedrooms so we could use that rather than the smaller “back room “. The rear courtyard is small and doesn’t really get the sun at all, but in fairness the owners did tell us this before booking. Again this wasn’t a problem as there is a lovely park only a two minute walk away for the dog to have a run.

Spacious, warm and comfortable

Cozy and clean. It’s very quiet but close to the village centre. The kitchen is well equipped.

It’s a shame the double bed was in the small bedroom. The front bedroom which had twin beds was a lovely room and we’d have preferred to stay in that one. The electric fire rather than a log burner was a bit disappointing in this style of property.

Great location from Bakewell, Chatsworth House and walking distance from 3 great pubs. Cottage felt really cozy.

The bathroom was missing a hand towel and one of the beds appeared to have dog hairs on the sheet

Location for the Peaks is great plus two cracking pubs for food in the village

Problem with shower on last day

Great location to some lovely walks. The welcome basket was a bonus treat and much appreciated. Washing machine (didn't use) and dishwasher was a bonus too. Easy self check in/out with no fuss. Lovely little village.

Maybe I made a error booking Saturday until Wednesday, it was my (adult) son's birthday on the Monday and we decided on this cottage as was in-between where we all live (two adult son's living in different parts) to get together for his birthday. As we were all travelling on the Saturday and check in time is 4pm I decided to make tea at home and bring it while we got our bearings. Sunday we woke and went for a walk upon returning decided to stay local and have a meal at the pub but sadly on Sundays the kitchen closes at 5om. We also found out it would be closed completely on Mondays (sons birthday) which put a dagger in our plans to relax have wine and enjoy a nice meal locally. The cottage was a little tired but very clean and those stairs are slippery, I recommend packing slippers.

Lovely local pubs with great food. Nice and peaceful location. Plenty of walks. Bakewell close by. Character full cottage with everything you need.
