The Old Smithy

The Old Smithy was perfect for our stay! Cozy and compact, but with everything we needed and still felt spacious! The hosts were lovely and very accommodating. We have found a great little gem and will be recommending to anyone visiting the area. Thank you for a lovely stay!

This is a self contained suite/annex attached to the owner’s property, the accommodation was excellent, comfy bed, mini sitting area with comfy settee, an artificial flame fire heater and wall mounted TV, kitchenette with microwave and mini cooker plus a good size fridgefreezer . And a superb ensuite with a rain shower, plenty of hot water and heating, Perfect/ everything I needed, exceptionally clean too.everything you need for a quite self catering holiday, in a good location .

Misleading photo!-not the House shown, not even the wooden door to a private flat behind, but a converted Garage (done to good standard apart from the door) sandwiched between 2 other homes, with an opaque small, non fully opening window and no view outside. I had to unplug the Noxious Chemical cocktail of an air "freshener" which was still making me feel sick the next day. The hosts clearly get up at 6am on a Saturday and next doors barking dog was stressful, especially at 2am! Peaceful it was Not. Howling gale from gap around door. I didn't feel secure as the door opened outwards and there was no bolt. Wifi info on lovely wall sign was incorrect which was very frustrating until I found a different set of instructions. Every possible thing had been provided, except washing up liquid and a sponge for the sink (plus I did not realise I would need a shower cap because of the shower not having a shower hose) The Bed was horrendous and I think my old ironing board would have been more comfortable. Luckily I had taken my own mattress topper, however, I had to double it over which left me with a very narrow strip to attempt to sleep on meaning a very painful night. I couldn't use the shower (unless I used the washing up bowl as a hat or covered my head in the very nicely provided tin foil) as I had neglected to bring a shower cap as I've never seen a shower without a shower hose! The hot water was very good luckily as I had to use the sink and a flannel to wash. Small towels. The Stained sofa was comfortable but would have benefited with a throw to hide the stains. As I was struggling to sleep because of the painful bed the intermittent bright flash from the smoke alarm next to the bed did not help. Good job I was there alone as the headboard was not screwed to the wall or the bed. I desperately needed a peaceful place to unwind in comfort but I did not get this. I ended up more stressed after staying there than before I went.
