Cleanliness was poor and upon our check-in in to our room we found an empty used pizza box in the wardrobe door, completely unacceptable and clearly the room hadn't been thoroughly cleaned and checked upon our arrival

Room was fantastic size real luxurious needed a bit of tlc but still very good

Traveled with our dog £20 surcharge no dog bowls or treats in room just a jar of dog biscuits at reception could treat the dogs a bit better for the money

Breakfast and Dinner was good quality. Staff were very polite.

The reception staff were very pleasant and directed us to our rooms. They advised us that either room was dog friendly as our son and his wife had a small dog. Sadly Both rooms were very 'tired' - marks on the walls including coffee stains and dirty skirtings. The furniture and carpets were also marked and old - We even found a blue hair bungee under the duvet when we went to bed, making us concerned if the sheets had been changed. Sadly, it seems our rooms did not look the same as the photos shown on booking.com for a Deluxe room. The Hotel also seemed short of staff and our 6.30pm dinner reservation ended at 9.35pm! - it took an age to order desserts. There was a wedding on and at 10.45pm they had a very loud firework display to ACDC music - directly opposite our sons 'dog friendly' room. No pre warning at check in - this seriously affected the dog and he paced all night as he had been frightened so much. It also woke all of us up as we had had a long day and were all asleep when the fireworks started. Our sons room had an adjoining door and at 2am the wedding guests staying there came back and were shouting and clearly very intoxicated. The joining door had a big gap at the bottom of it and they could hear everything. This again affected the dog even more. Our son, his wife and the dog barely had any sleep. We wanted to complain but on check out there was a long line of people also checking out. We were tired and just wanted to get home. This was sadly supposed to be the highlight of our week away in Wales and a surprise treat for our sons 30th Birthday next week but it turned out to be the low point. We spent £430 on the rooms, £52 on Breakfast and £258 for dinner with wine and this was definitely not worth circa £740 for the night. If we had used the Spa it would have been another £100 for the 4 of us as well, whereas we have stayed at many similar Hotels where these facilities are included.

I love the castle ruins. What’s not to like about a medieval castle?

I had to change rooms as the air conditioning unit in the corridor was outside my room and was so noisy that I could not sleep. The staff were very accommodating. The grounds are wonderful, lots of lovely trees and shrubs, fortunately the weather was wonderful.

My rooms were located on the first floor which was inconvenient as I have recently had knee surgery and my mobility is limited and there is no lift understandably as it is a listed building. The hotel is not for the disabled. The decor is VERY dark. I have to admit that I find it incomprehensible that a glass of wine is 12 pounds, how this can be justified is beyond me!!
