Historically interesting

The room was fine the greeting was nice and welcoming Our evening meal was excellent and good value We decided not to have breakfast and opted for lunch in the pub with friends That proved to a disaster The food was not what we ordered on 4 meals it was served to two with a 25 minute wait for the other two meals The manager listened to our dissatisfaction but that fell,on deaf ears

Located in a lovely setting with surrounding gardens and a variety of walks

Location - grounds

My room was pretty dirty - bathroom radiator had thick dust on it - toilet brush was covered in other people’s hairs. Around the bath was mouldy. Food very average And again - the walls were stained in the restaurant

The area outside the palace

Our room & mainly the bathroom was shocking, toilet flush was broken, black mould in the grouting round the bath & a really big crack in the handbasin, couldn't open some windows & couldn't close those that were open! A very depressing room, checked out early so we could leave ASAP

This would have been a spectacular building at some point in the past.

Utterly decrepit. Holes in the ceiling, vomit stains on the carpet, mould and a boarded up window in the bathroom, paint flaking off the walls and £12 for sliced bread in the restaurant.

Incredible to walk around a castle, although it did need a bit of love here and there. Staff friendly and welcoming. Bar was well stocked and drinks not too badly priced. Room large and good air con.

Alot of the corridors are very dark-walled, so can be hard to navigate in the dark. Also, the dining/breakfast room has dark walls, which feel very oppressive - these need to be lightened! the room was cleaned to an okay standard, but not the best - wife had to clean the bath before use, and there were alot of cobwebs in the corners.
