The Marquis Inn

Very friendly owner on arrival and the staff at breakfast made me feel very welcome. Generous tea tray in room and hearty breakfast. Good size room and had everything I needed (except WiFi code as I mentioned at breakfast. Could have gone down to the bar to get it but did not really want to go into the party.) Good size room with newish decoration and clean bathroom. Bed was comfortable and sheets were clean and smelt fresh. Slept well. Shower had good water pressure and good temperature control. Was given an upgrade because of the party in the bar that evening and the music was likely to be loud. Was aware of it but didn’t mind as didn’t have to be up super early the next day.

Really wanted to eat where I was staying so was a little disappointed that there was no food because of the party downstairs. Car park and entrance to rooms are at the back of the building which did not give the best impression with bin bags full of empty bottles, old furniture and distressed outer paintwork on the front door but once inside it was fine, although carpet could have done with a hoover in the room. Towels were a bit frayed; likewise the duvet, although clean was showing sign of wear as it poked out of the bottom of the cover. The car park was roomy enough for a few cars however the uneven tarmac entrance scrapped the underneath of my car a little.

Room was clean. Bed very comfortable (possibly too comfortable).

Wifi reception in my room was a bit patchy

Exterior /Rear of hotel had large amounts of refuse bagged up waiting for collection Rotting chairs on walkway leading to access door to rooms

The room was great. Brilliant shower.

The music in the bar downstairs was so loud I could record it on my phone as I lay in bed. I complained at 11.30pm but nothing happened. It finally abated at midnight. There is noise pollution and there was last night. It was extraordinary. Even though there is a warning about the music on the website, you have to scroll to the very end of the venue's listing to find it. And nothing prepares you for how loud it was.
