Calcutta Bungalow

That's the place to be when in Kolkata. Unique atmosphere, small, very personal, friendly, every single person working there made us feel welcome and looked after us, comfortable rooms and beds, fantastic food. We feel it is a home away from home and for us it's the best location. Metro is near, nice to just walk around the area.

That we had to go back home.

Its historic nature and the care that had gone on to furnishing it with interesting and relevant artefacts.

Bit far out

La beauté des lieux. Le plus bel hotel de tout le voyage

The hotel is beautiful, with stylish design throughout incorporating heritage features. It has a real boutique feel to it.

They accidentally overcharged me on arrival and it took two months of chasing to get a refund.

The bungalow is not only a lovely place to stay, it's a great experience. Staff are SO helpful! We only regret we didn't have time to take one of the fascinating walking tours.

My only suggestion would be to avoid the front bedroom if street noise bothers you

A beautifully restored property oozing charm and attentive service with rooms decorated thematically. We stay in the Sahib room which had a copper bathtub which was a real luxury after the dusty streets of India. The included breakfast was massive and we ended up sharing 2 between 4 people. A wonderful retreat in the chaos that is Calcutta.

The hotel is out of the centre of Old Calcutta where most of the tourist attraction are. Its a short walk to the nearest metro station (10min) which is cheap, modern, and efficient, though expect crowding in like sardines. Otherwise its a short (distance) but long (timewise) trip in the indescribable mess which is Calcutta traffic. Downloading local ride-share apps such as Grab/Rapido make things easier/cheaper and cuts out the bargaining with taxi drivers over prices. Once the ride is book you simply pay cash on arrival at your destination.
