The Curious Fox

Me and my wife visited the Curious Fox yesterday and we really enjoyed our stay. The location is great and the hotel is really nice clean and comfortable. We stayed in room 4 and we had bed and breakfast for what we thought was a very good price. On this occasion we did not dine in the restaurant on the evening but we did have breakfast and must say it was fantastic. We would definitely visit again. Staff were very friendly and helpful too.

Gave the Curious Fox a go as it was really close to the place we were staying - and we’re so glad we did! Lovely place, quirky decor and an amazing menu. I had the salmon and my partner had the lamb and both dishes were delicious. We also tried out a few of the cocktails on offer, as good as the food. Not the cheapest place but definite worth the extra money for the food and the great service from the staff. The only criticism (and it’s a tiny one) was that it felt a little rushed towards the end, like they wanted to close and get home but it was really quite early. Other than that, a lovely meal and a pleasant evening spent in the restaurant.

Visited today for Sunday lunch. Sadly two members of the party were disappointed. I ordered rosemary and garlic chicken breast as described on the menu but was served a roast of chicken legs which had a couple of sprigs of rosemary in the jus but no taste of garlic. Had I known I would be served this would have ordered something else as dislike this cut of chicken. Pointed this discrepancy out to the waitress who just replied “oh ok . I’ll tell the kitchen”. No further feedback! Someone else ordered the vegan nut roast which he said was more like a large stuffing ball than a roast. Service was ok but no checking that everything was ok. When ordering drinks we were told no draft cider available., just a bottle of fruity cider. Also no oat or soya milk available with coffees. We chose to dine here for a birthday meal but actually wish we had gone elsewhere in Skipton. Setting is lovely but sadly fell down on the basics.

We previously had an outstanding stay here in April 2024 — so much so that we recommended the venue widely and even paid for friends to stay as a gift. Hospitality was warm, generous, and relaxed, and we left with fantastic memories. Unfortunately, our return visit for a friend’s 60th birthday could not have been more different. While the room was lovely, the overall experience was disorganised and disappointing. Cocktails were poorly made, food service was slow despite being pre-ordered, and food quality was inconsistent, with several guests unhappy with their meals. Service throughout the evening felt inattentive and unprofessional — champagne left unopened and unpoured, wine lists repeatedly requested, and little sense of care or hospitality. The most upsetting aspect was how unwelcome we were made to feel later in the evening. The bar was closed abruptly around 10pm, even before coffee was offered, and non-resident guests were clearly pushed out, causing embarrassment to the hostess and detracting from what should have been a special celebration. If the venue is no longer willing or able to provide the level of service it once did, then bookings like this should not be accepted without clear explanation. The contrast between our two visits was stark, and sadly this experience ensures we will not return.

Location perfect, evening meal and breakfast, excellent, staff lovely and friendly.

Room wasnt very clean, dusty, beside tables had sticky marks, jacuzzi bath, needed a good clean, black gunk came out of the jets. Room wasnt worth the money we paid and breakfast wasnt included.

Room was freezing and the heating wasn’t easy to turn on. Complex electric wall heater with no instructions. Texted the staff member who gave me check in details asking for help and still no response 24 hours later! Also a very lumpy, bumpy bed and pillows, and bell ringing and roadworks outside the room until midnight. I slept terribly.

Food was good

Grubby dated room at £200 pound per night , was expecting much better
