Brae Lea House, Lochboisdale, South Uist. Outer Hebrides

Rupert the host runs a tight ship here with no sign of a swarthy crew. You are instantly “at home” in this comfortable and welcoming place, where breakfast is a delight and information on everything local is freely and comprehensively provided.

Set in a peaceful, picturesque location. Parking onsite. Single story accommodation with 7 guest rooms. Our room was compact, double bed, 2 bedside tables, and a dressing table with a hanging stand, but suited our needs and had a generous sized ensuite shower. There was also a very pleasant lounge with great views that can be used by the guests between 8am and 10pm. The breakfast room was also pleasant, spacious and welcoming with a lovely view. No TV which was great! The owner Rupert was very pleasant and professional. He makes all the breakfasts to order and staggered the times between guests which we found a good idea. I think Brae Lea is under going some gradual updating, improvements and refurbishment, which does not impact guests but it's clear that the lounge and breakfast rooms have a newer updated feel, which I think will continue to improve its overall appeal. Nice bedding and towels. A car or bike would be essential here, as it would on any of the Isles we visited in the outer Hebrides.

We could hear very clearly guests in adjoining rooms especially when showering (despite a polite notice in the room asking guests to keep noise to a minimum before 7am and after 10pm) The sound proofing is not great but you are staying in someone's house not a purpose built big hotel! The ramp to the rear door that guests seem to use most passed directly by our bedroom window and so we felt a bit on display!

Rupert was a great host, his B&B was at a great location, comfortable bed, nice towels and a fab breakfast to set us up for the day.

Wasn’t geared up for cyclists Host a little inflexible

Comfortable, clean, very welcoming and accommodating host. We had to leave very early due to a ferry timetable change, so Rupert kindly provided a light breakfast “to go”.
