Sycamore cottage

Good location, a short walk away from pubs and restaurants. Close to Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Bakewell. Accommodation was clean, comfortable and there was plenty of free parking. Also, there was free Wi-Fi. Bed was comfortable and there was very good bathroom. My partner enjoyed the breakfast, which included tea, coffee, a glass of orange juice, a fresh fruit salad (strawberries, raspberries, kiwi fruit, blueberries, water melon, grapes), croissants, a choice of three cereals (Weetabix, cornflakes, and muesli), white and brown sliced bread, there was a toaster, a great selection of honey and homemade jam and individual marmite portions.

The Sycamore Cottage web site states "The preserves are homemade as are the cakes on arrival.", we were not offered any cakes. At time of review, the Sycamore Cottage page on Booking.com web site sates "Delicious Breakfast: A full English or Irish breakfast is served daily, including juice and fresh fruits. Special diet menus are available to cater to diverse guest needs." It was therefore surprising to be informed on arrival, that it would be a continental breakfast. We discovered the next morning unlike the majority, if not all, breakfasts we have had in mainland Europe, it did not include cheese or cold meats. I believe that breakfast description (full English) was also the case when we booked in May 2025, certainly a Booking.com review dated 17 May 2025, states "full English breakfast was superb". Confusingly the bed had a duvet rated at13.5 tog, ideal for cold temperatures, however, at 6pm on our day of arrival, the outside temperature was 26C / 79F, and it was very warm in the room at that point, and through the night.

Unique, farmhouse style, relaxed. Well placed for visits to the Peak District & Stately Homes.

Very warm and cosy and Lynda our host was a very nice lady.

Nothing, we would have liked a shower but managed in the old style bath!

We arrived for a stay of 3 nights with another couple of friends and were given a friendly welcome by Lynda. Both rooms were snug & comfortable with tea and coffee facilities and we really appreciated the use of the guest lounge downstairs for evenings playing cards and relaxing. Lynda's breakfasts were excellent with a range of options and no refills needed due to the generous portions. Lynda was a charming and natural hostess, always happy to exchange experiences and her tailored recommendations for trips helped us to make the most out of our stay. The local area is beautiful for walking & driving and we departed wishing that we could have stayed longer so a return trip is definitely on the cards! Highly recommended and thank you Lynda and Alistair.

Don't park under the lime tree if you can avoid it!!

Wonderful place to stay in the Peaks District! We were a family with three adults, so we booked both rooms, and both were beautifully arranged and comfortable. The cottage is absolutely lovely, pictures do not do it justice. Lynda is a very kind and gracious host, we really enjoyed meeting her and talking with her about the region. Her full English breakfast was superb. The location is also a great home base for the region, it’s easy to get to Chatsworth, Bakewell, etc.
