B&B Ortigia Bedda

the decor is absolutely stunning, but the hosts (Ninni and his sister Cristina) were the cherry on to! the most delicious breakfasts made by Ninni with fresh cheeses, meats and breads and little pastry delights every day. He was so kind and helpful and Cristina was so sweet. We loved our time in Catania so much and lots was due to staying here! Also the location is fantastic, moments from the bear castle where all the best bars are in the evening for Spritzes and Taglieri. It really was a gem to stay in and we would recommend this B&B for anyone visiting

Nothing really, location I guess was good.

We contacted the host whilst away a day before booking and he failed to let us know that the place was effectively a building site due to the works going on directly above the property. Upon checking there was something in the small print about noise from 9.00am however we were woken by pneumatic drills at 7.20am. The property was also very dirty and fraying quite literally at the edges, I would definitely advise no one else to book this property

The only good thing is the location which is perfect. Right on the main street with easy walking to all the attractions.

Check in was fairly easy, although we had no information so waited outside after texting our documents. After a few minutes we received a door code to unlock both the road level and front door. Unfortunately, the place feels neglected. We had two rooms for 4 people. The larger room was ok, bed was clean and comfortable enough. The pillows were very thin and unfortunately only 1 each (plus one spare in a cupboard but with no cover provided). The smaller room was tiny, which is fine, but most of the space was lost to a huge fitted wardrobe taking most of the room, and a laundry area with washing machine. The big problem started with the bathrooms. Both were mouldy, so obviously not well cleaned. The fixtures were old and broken the shower hardly worked, the radiators were all disgusting. Bits of plaster missing from the walls. There was a terrible smell of rot coming from the sink in one bathroom. We then looked around the common area. The kitchen was dangerously dirty. The fridge was broken completely, the freezer did not shut properly and was still cool but above freezing as we noticed from leaving water in for two days. Both fridge and freezer had mould inside. The kitchen was damaged, and the only washing up item was a mouldy sponge. Next to the kitchen was what can only be described as a junk area/ rubbish tip. There were bags full of junk including used tissues or toilet paper, empty plastic bottles and dirty laundry. All stacked up next to what seems to be a spare mattress. Outside on the balcony was the same, bags and bags of trash and pieces of rusty metal. The living room had a dirty sofa, and but was otherwise ok. Before we booked several months ago we read the reviews and they were generally good. After checking in and seeing the state of the place, we checked the reviews again and saw many recent reviews have been terrible, including mentioning poor cleaning and broken appliances. Obviously the owner does not care to fix this.

Location was great

The toilet seat was peeling and rusted and you risked cutting yourself if you sat on it. Workmen started very early in the morning in the unit above or next door. Scraping, banging and jack hammering woke us. It was so loud we had to leave our room early.

The bedroom was not as advertised. The photos I looked at were of a room with a regular height ceiling. Our bedroom was up some stairs and it was lofted. I'm 5-9 and my friend is 6-2. We were not able to stand up in the bedroom. Had I known this beforehand, I would not have booked the room. The location was perfect and the host did have 2 or 3 other bedrooms that were part of this apartment and I know 2 of them had regular height ceilings.

Great central location close to everything, great to have access to a lift for bags and lovely flooring and high ceilings

Would have liked to be able to make a cup of tea but no kettle or cups anywhere that we could see

The location was great and the check-in was easy. The host was responsive and sent clear instructions.

Extremely noisy. The apartment on top was under renewal/construction and since 8am we could hear all the machines ans things being demolished so was impossible to sleep. The room was also too bright, and the bathroom is extremely small.

For us it was a wonderful stay!
