Nikau Lodge

On arrival, a lady (I believe the owner) said the property has a policy not allowing children under 16. I acknowledge it was my mistake not checking this policy before booking. So, I arranged a motel downhill for myself and my son; the rest of the group stayed at the lodge. At check-in around 4pm, one of the room had twin beds rather than the extra-large bed I requested on Booking.com. The reception lady said their system is confusing, but on Booking.com the request appeared clear. A man (I believe the host) asked how many people would stay in the room. When I explained only my wife would stay (because my son and I were elsewhere), he questioned why a large bed/room was needed for my wife. He reluctantly pushed two single beds together and appeared angry while doing so. When I assisting my wife for check-in, my son slipped on the carpeted stairs and made noise. The lady reacted loudly and focused on the noise, repeatedly stating children are not allowed. This made us feel stressed and unwelcome, as if we had to keep quiet all the time. At last, road traffic noise was noticeable at night and we could hear vehicles passing.

Lovely little garden walk to check in The hosts Mick & Karen were so friendly throughout our stay. Our room at the front was lovely with a view to die for and wonderfully comfortable bed. There was a little fridge at the top of the stairs with chilled water and milk to help yourself to along with delicious home made cookies The breakfast was amazing, beautifully presented and tasted just as good. We liked that breakfast was served at a large oblong table open plan with kitchen area so Mick & Karen chatted away to us as preparing things and introduced everyone to each other as they joined the table. Location excellent, few minutes walk to the town centre & a out 10 to the whale station.

This stay was absolutely perfect. I cannot recommend it enough. Our room was stunning and we felt so comfortable and at home. The breakfast was incredible with great conversation and company as well. Do not delay or look further — if you get the chance, stay here. By far my favorite stay in all of New Zealand.

This is a very beautiful and classic bed and breakfast. The flowers on the property were beautiful and parking was easy. Our hosts were friendly and our breakfast was absolutely delicious. It's also a short (although steep) walk into town and close to lots of activities. We wish we could've stayed longer!

There is a hot tub on site but it wasn't in use during our stay.

A very warm welcome from excellent hosts in a lovely homely setting with a great breakfast. We also enjoyed the hot tub.
